Pokok bunga kertas dengan nama saintifiknya "bougainvillea" yang merupakan pokok bunga yang sering kali dilihat sebagai pokok perhiasan dirumah-rumah. Kebanyakkan pokok bunga kertas ini ditanam didalam pasu dan berada dihalaman rumah.

Pokok bunga kertas ini mempunyai bunga berwarna-warni yang berkembang sepanjang tahun. Ianya telah menjadi pilihan tanaman hiasan tropika yang sangat popular. Pokok bunga kertas ini berasal dari Amerika Selatan, Apabila pokok bunga kertas berbunga, biasanya kebanyakkan daunnya akan luruh. Ianya diberikan nama bunga kertas kerana bunganya yang nipis dan seperti kertas.

Nama Inggeris bunga ini, iaitu Bougainvilla, pula dinamakan sempena nama Louis Antoine de Bougainville, seorang Komander Laut Perancis. Ianya tergolong dalam famili Nyctaginaceae yang mengandungi 28 genus dan 250 spesies. Terdapat tiga spesies utama bougainvilla di Malaysia, iaitu B. glabra, B. spectabilis, dan B. Mrs. Butt. Banyak kacukan telah dilakukan daripada tiga spesies asal ini untuk menghasilkan pokok bunga kertas yang mempunyai pelbagai warna kelopak, baik selapis mahupun banyak lapis.

Pokok bunga kertas menjadi pilihan ramai disebabkan bunga berwarna-warni yang cantik dan tahan lama, mudah dijaga, serta pokoknya yang tahan lama sehingga melebihi 20 tahun (jika dijaga dengan betul). Pokok bunga kertas kini juga menjadi pilihan bagi menghasilkan pokok bonsai renek.

A closer look at one of the golden flowers.

'Bunga Emas dan Perak' (meaning 'Golden and Silver Flowers'), often referred to as'"Bunga Mas', were small flowering trees made of gold and silver that were sent as tribute by some vassal states in the northern Malay Peninsular to the King of Siam.

Some senders regarded the Bunga Mas as gifts given as symbols of friendship, but the Siamese kings accepted them as tokens of the givers acceptance of Thai suzerainty.

The museum labeling did not identify this Bunga Mas' date of origin.

One of the things I like to do when I visit a country around the equator is head to botanic gardens. The myriad of colors and shapes is a truly a sight to behold. I took a liking to this flower in particular because of its isolation and the stark contrast between the red of the flower and the green of the background. "Bunga Merah" is Indonesian/Malay for "Red Flower."
