Cutting down out very own Christmas tree! It was a winter wonderland in the forest. Standing under a tree and shaking it was so much fun. It was like an instant blizzard.
This photo was taken just out of Edmonton, near Elk Island, at my friend's country property.
These coconuts are husked and ready to be used for cooking. I like the preparation made in bundling them with a traditional rope, maybe of coconut fiber and decorated with a croton leaf. This was taken at the Port Vila market. They're sprouting and good for planting or snacking. The inside kind of like cotton candy, but not pliable. In Bislama they call it 'navara'.
I helped some friends move today, came home and mowed the lawn. Hot and sweaty stuff in the middle of a Chicago August. To help me cool off, I reached back into last winter's archives, and my
very bundled up grandson (Colton) out in the yard enjoying the deep snow. It's almost hard to remember the long, bitter cold, close to record-breaking snowy winter season, when summer's heat presses in on me. But a look back through a few folders of wintery photos jogged my memory. Surely this coming winter will not be a repeat… right?
But enough of all that for now. Think it's time to wander back outside, barefoot and something cold to drink, and soak in all that glorious sun.

all of a sudden DC has gotten this ridiculous cold front. but just like anything that can talk the talk but not walk the walk, we haven't got any snow to show for it. and nothing makes me more mad than cold weather and no snow. that's just cruel. luckily i have an abundance of winter clothes from living in europe and because i love winter clothes. jackets, boots, scarves... love.
i had to have some blood work done today. we are starting our infertility tests and apparently that means they need A LOT of my blood. it's so annoying.
also, i found an amazing spot in my house to take generic pictures. this is that spot. so excited that i found my crutch! haha.
I spent at least twenty minutes or so watching a Canada goose family (mom, dad, and four goslings), while I stood in the rain and wet grass and got soaked. Once they finished their breakfast of grass mom and dad got busy preening themselves while the youngsters huddled tight against each other and settled down for a nap. This little bundle of fluff consists of the four goslings. It was raining fairly hard when I took this shot, but getting soaked to get these shots was well worth it. The appearance of this line from my second aging Epson 4490 scanner means I will be looking into a DSLR film scanning solution soon.
This group of eight photos are all of the same little girl as she grows from baby to ten or so. A little sister joins the family and then another baby. It seems that there's something melancholy about her. The photos were purchased from a German seller and the words printed on the back of the photos that are real photo postcards are German.
november is winter's practice run in maine when we make sure the snowblower runs, wash the hats and gloves and mittens, and find the snow shovels and place them by the front door.
