For much of the twentieth century, certain European countries had the ability to change governments by ballot. The Communists after the Great War in Germany decided to try and change a government by bullets. When you lose the bullet battle instead of the election battle, it often ends like this postcard showing executed Communists.

I found a half of a car in a ghost town that I forgot the names of. Makes you wonder what this poor car did so wrong to deserve to be taken out into the desert and shot so many times. Probably got caught cheating at poker in Vegas.

These two bullets were found after the Battle of Gallipoli which started in 1915 and ended in 1916 during WWI. It appears that the two bullets collided in mid flight. Given the relatively low velocities of the weapons being used in that era, they didn't destroy each other. It looks like that the bullet being pierced may in fact have been from a smooth bore "musket" since the doesn't appear to be any "rifling" marks on it. The other bullet clearly has marks on it consistent with having been fired through a barrel that is rifled.
What are the chances of hitting another fired bullet midair?
A little history about the battle:
The allies consisted of British, French, Australia and New Zealand against a fierce Turkish Army. In the end, the allied side lost 46,000 troops while the Turkish lost 65,000, with the Allies retreating from the battle.
The Turks still consider their victory at Gallipoli to be a great, defining moment in the nation’s modern history. Eight years later, the Turkish War of Independence broke out, led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Ataturk was a commander at the battle of Gallipoli.
The battle was also Australia and New Zealand’s first military campaign as independent dominions in the British Empire. It was a formative moment in the national consciousness of both countries.
I got this in an e-mail and thought it was fascinating.

Running at speeds of up to 320 km/h, the Bullet Train (shinkansen) is known for punctuality (most trains depart on time to the second), comfort (relatively silent cars with spacious, always forward facing seats), safety (no fatal accidents in its history) and efficiency.

Slapping a 10 stop ND filter is always fun, especially because you can add motion to daylight subjects that are usually frozen due to how bright it is. The filter allowed this to go from about 1/250 to about 2 seconds. The first shot taken at 2 seconds and ISO 100 showed almost no train at all. This is where knowing Manual comes in because I'm able to bump the ISO in order to get a quicker shutter speed to where the train actually is recorded.
In order to make sure no breaks or gaps occur, I treated it like star trails using a shutter release cable and continuous high so it just took photo after photo after photo and then finally manually masking them together in Photoshop for it to have the full train throughout this piece of track.
Thanks for looking!

"Belted kingfishers are busy birds. They spend a good part of their day pursuing food. Small fish, dragonfly larvae and water bugs are fair game for these year-round residents of Central Florida.
Like ospreys, herons and cormorants, the belted kingfisher uses that airy vantage point to scope out its surroundings. This bluish-gray bird with a white belly, white neckband and over sized head employs keen eyesight to survey an underwater smorgasbord."
"The kingfisher is an exceptional hunter. When diving, it swiftly navigates through the top 18 inches of water to capture prey. Its long, pointy beak minimizes splash while maximizing speed. Its beak is such an aerodynamic appendix that many Japanese bullet trains mimic its design. Its eyes are also special. It has a transparent third eyelid, and its lenses function both under water and above. (Sherry Boas, Simply Living)"

A new trio of examples of ‘data sonification’ from NASA missions provides a new method to enjoy an arrangement of cosmic objects. Data sonification translates information collected by various NASA missions -- such as the Chandra X-ray Observatory, Hubble Space Telescope, and Spitzer Space Telescope -- into sounds.
This image of the Bullet Cluster (officially known as 1E 0657-56) provided the first direct proof of dark matter, the mysterious unseen substance that makes up the vast majority of matter in the Universe. X-rays from Chandra (pink) show where the hot gas in two merging galaxy clusters has been wrenched away from dark matter, seen through a process known as "gravitational lensing" in data from Hubble Space Telescope (blue) and ground-based telescopes. In converting this into sound, the data pan left to right, and each layer of data was limited to a specific frequency range. Data showing dark matter are represented by the lowest frequencies, while X-rays are assigned to the highest frequencies. The galaxies in the image revealed by Hubble data, many of which are in the cluster, are in mid-range frequencies. Then, within each layer, the pitch is set to increase from the bottom of the image to the top so that objects towards the top produce higher tones.
