Order: Hemiptera (True Bugs, Cicadas, Aphids, Hoppers, Whiteflies, and Mealybugs).

Size: 4-7mm.

Range: Widespread in North America to southern Mexico.

Description: These insects are active from spring through fall in gardens, fields, and meadows, feeding on the juices of stems, leaves, and fruits of over 200 species of plants. Females lay eggs into soft stems and leafstalks.

a wonderfully prehistoric-looking Dock Bug on the lush foliage below the Walled Garden in Summerfields

On this section of the path a group of flying bugs was perfectly highlighted by the setting sun so I tried to capture a shot. I was pretty happy with the effect of the slow shutter speed.

Caught this guy crawling across the base of my monitor. About 3 years back, these things were swarming all over trees and pots in the yard. Anybody know what they are?
