More bugs on white flowers, spotted don my walk last week.

Stink bugs get their name from the unpleasant odor they produce when they are threatened. Predators prefer meals that smell good.

Austrotichus rugosus changing from one stage to another.

We find these feeding on the Allocasuarina humilis cones. They hang around together as a family. The young feed by inserting their proboscis into the plant.

or should I fly?

Decision time for the cockchafer.

I rescued it after it got stuck on it's back, it obliged by kindly posing for this one handed shot. (I'm holding the slate shard).

"Macro Monday's" and the theme of "Plastic".

For this theme I quickly decided to use my son's Bug Catcher that he received as a present as part of a "Nature Set".

As the handle section of the catcher is orange I decided to use a contrasting colour as the background and set it up on a blue plastic chopping board that I use for photographic purposes. This was set up in front of the kitchen window and I used a diffuser to soften the light source.

Then I decided to find a subject to include as part of the composition.

Our backyard is full of Lady Bugs this year. We have lots of aphids so there is plenty of food for them to feast on. We also have lots of finches too which I suspect are eating the lady bugs.

Photographed with a Nikon D500, 50mm lens, 36mm extension tube and Raynox 250, Meike320 flash.

Volkswagen - Candid shot of VW Bug in the wild.

I noticed these flies just shutting down on these grasses and getting ready for the night as the late afternoon sun made a nice glow on the pond. These are the same kind of fly that I saw preying on mayflies earlier. Happy Fly Day everyone.

Over wintered Adult Dock Bug. Coreus marginatus.

I'm of no use with identifications I'm afraid since I've been living in the tropics. I constantly keep my eyes and ears open since I've been here though - you never know what's around the corner!
