This bug is about 6 inches long. New to the south, I did a double-take the first time I saw one. I eventually motivated this one to move. It dropped to the ground, and I saw that those are long antennae between the extended front legs at upper right, extending from the head, near the center of this photo. Not at all photogenic -- but a curiosity. West Georgia.

Here's a possibly better shot that includes enlarged view of the head area.

A litle bug on a litle flower

I was walking around my beloved oak tree on Sunday afternoon. The sun was shinning brilliantly and warmly so everything was alright with the world, even a bugs' world.

I stopped short when a bright emerald green thing came into view. It was headed up to the leaves.

I thought "Wow! What a wonderful photo opportunity!" It turned out not as easy as it looked.

Mysterious bug found living under a dining room table. Moths were eating the persian rug and he seems to have been eating the moths.

Location: Toronto, Canada [but I've never seen anything like this before. My guess is that he was a stowaway in some traditional chinese herbal medicines.]

Um fusca Off-Road! Detalhe, era uma mulher no volante!

I used an additional 2x lens while shooting these macros. This tall coarse grass is the kind that I believe my grandmother used to call "johnson grass." The bug--I don't know. Maybe a "shield bug" variety.

This is the fourth one of these bugs I found on our Lemon Cucumber plant.

Affectionately known as a 'Stink Bug' in the US and a Shield Bug in the UK.

OMG! I caught this thing hanging out on one of my couch pillows...it has to be one of the most creepy creatrues I have ever seen in my life!!! I don't think I have ever seen a bug this big in out house! Anyone have any guesses as to what it is?? I'd really like to know.

Wasn't this the creature from Cloverfield? ^_^

Don't touch it! It can be painful & very itching.

A Trio of Bug Eyed Monsters. They never miss anything that goes on around them and are always sure to win out in any staring contest!

Can anyone identify this bug?

On, I think, some wild Itea virginica. (Actually, on second thought, it looks more like some sort of Pepperbush). Taken on one of our last days in New Hampshire.

ETA: on due research, I'm pretty sure this is Clethra (or "Pepperbush", also known as "Summersweet"), not Itea. I think this is what I'm going to plant to replace the rhododendrons that mainly died when we were in NH.

not sure what kind of bug this is, but followed him for a bit

This is our Bugs Away soap. It is an insect repellent in the shape of a caterpillar. It smells of citronella.
