The Wheel Bug Rap
Said (or sung) with a funky beat
Your nose is a hypodermic needle,
Your back has wings to fly,
Your legs have hooks to grasp your prey,
And hold them till they die.
(Chorus)
They call you wheel bug,
Cause your back is a wheel,
It's shape is kinda rough.
You're a real bug!
With wings, six legs,
And lots of other insect stuff.
Your head is shaped like two arrows,
Right On It ... a beak and three eyes,
With two feelers of red, you're a sight to dread!
Mr. Wheel Bug ... you're a scary guy.
(Chorus)
Your beak extends like a switch blade,
It's pointed and hollow and kills!
It's a real poison pen ... but there's more!
It's a straw to drink your meals.
(Chorus)
Wheel bug you're so ... prehistoric,
It's good you're only ... one inch long,
I'm glad you're a bug and I'm not one,
And that's the end of this song.
About the wheel bug: The wheel bug is a predatory insect that is about 1 1/2 inches (32mm) long. Its preferred prey are caterpillars and bees. It has a sharp retractable beak (rostrum) that can inject toxin and digestive enzymes. It then reverses flow and sucks up the insides of its prey. It's not a very fast mover or flyer but then I doubt it has many enemies because its venomous bite is said to be quite painful. It looks like a small dinosaur. They range from Ontario to Florida, west to Kansas and south into Mexico. They are in the same family (reduviidae) as ambush and assassin bugs.
Gideon's class craft for the school fundraiser: We had the kids make bugs out of recycled materials then we tagged and mounted them.
They gave their bugs names which we translated into Latin and they listed where they "found" them.

Edit: it's a Tessaratomidae rather than a Pentatomidae).

Info by Doug Yanega: One of several families easily mistaken for them. Flip one over and you'll see six fully-exposed spiracles, while pentatomoids have 5 - that's the easiest character.

If I'm right, well, possibly it is a green vegetable bug/ southern green stink bug.
The southern green stink bug is not native to Hungary or even Europe. The first sign of them was in Hungary just thirteen years ago. It is originally from Ethiopia.

I bought this bug brooch years ago and LOVE him but - A- he's VERY heavy and suitable for a heavy coat or jacket only and B- as I said earlier- I admire jewellry but rarely wear much!
I love this shot, even though I don't like bugs. My camera did a great job of making everything so crisp and sharp.
This tiny Pale Green Assassin bug (in nymph phase) landed on me and it had tiny crystals on it's legs and antenae. And, Yes, that is what my skin looks like on a microscopic level.

2 jars of bed bugs, each held on arm to allow a few hundred bugs time to feed for around 25 minutes. Tops of jars are fine screened. Bed bugs will feed and then crawl off onto cardboard in the jars. The feeding spaces are sensitive for a few days, but never really experience any itchiness post feeding. There is sometimes an itchy and irritating feeling during feeding.
Lately I've been under a lot of stress since a friend and I are releasing our first PC/Mac title named Utopia 9 - A Volatile Vacation on Tuesday.
Fortunately I had some of the new-ish angular A-shaped plates lying around that begged to be used for something cool. It quickly turned into a head and from the head grew a body - a body decorated with transparent wing- or hair-like pieces. It started out with four legs which are quite adjustable but I added the middle pair for stability, look and increased posability.
I had a bit of trouble with the eyes and the abdomen, but I feel like the result is adequate for now. Regardless I always find that building with Lego is a relaxing experience, and this time was no different. :-)
Any and all suggestions for further improvements on the model are much appreciated! :-)
On left of female bed bug is very light colored first instar nymph that just hatched. Another nymph on her right is at least one hour old and is a darker, amber or tan color. Developed and possibly ready to hatch nymphs can be seen in the eggs on row at right. Taken on Dec. 30. 1/4 inch squares.

Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.
