This was very small part of a huge collection of insects( ca.23000 species) which was at La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes,Mauritius. It was the work of one man,Jacques Siedlecki ,over 30 years.

Notice the spike on its back. Wonder if anyone knows the purpose of it. This guy has an exceptionally long proboscis which its uses for hunting and feeding.

There have been a lot of awesome Micro scale bugs, and I wanted to do one as well. Micro is not a scale I'm familiar or confident with, so I turned to that old saying - "Build what you know"
I wonder how many folks will think this is just a photo of the old Mantis from the thumbnail and pass it on by. ;) Here is a shot of the two of them together.

This scary looking bug is known as a Wheel Bug. It is in the assassin bug family Reduviidae. They attack and eat other bugs. Though they do not sting, they do bite and their bite is supposed to be quite painful. I didn't know this when I was photographing it and am glad I didn't try to pose it, though I wouldn't be inclined to touch such a scary looking bug. These bugs look like a mini Stegosaurus. OK, they have 6 legs and no tail, but they still remind me of the dinosaur.

bug light. officially known as duxbury pier light, was built in 1871 on the north side of the main channel in plymouth harbor to mark the dangerous shoal off saquish head, in plymouth, ma. The unusual coffeepot-shaped lighthouse is locally known as "bug light" or simply "the bug."

The seller went on to claim that the car was in "strong #2" condition, collectably speaking.
Given that the big bubbles of rust beneath the driver's side rear window and vent were located in an area that would be no fun to repair, and necessitate a repaint, I'd say that it certainly was in #2 condition.
You know... #2.

We're having a very mild winter, that means there will be a lot of bugs hatching during spring time.
Makes me wonder... hmmm....
A VW bug that is just up the road from my house and I final walked the few hundred feet to get this shot.
This is an interesting scene - we have both birch shieldbug (Elasmostethus interstinctus) nymphs being 'protected' by some adult parent bugs (Elasmucha grisea).
Male and female adult bed bugs in both unfed and fed conditions playing around their plant part look-a-likes, apple seeds. They can't tell the difference either and readily crawl over the apple seeds in a manner similar to what they do in their harborages. Both male and female bed bugs can have elongated abdomens after feeding. Males did not try to mate with the apple seeds. Any pale or dark waste droppings are from the bugs. Apple seeds don't move much at all, they have no legs. They are plump, but haven't fed. Blue line squares are 1/4 inch size. You must realize by now that I don't like to describe bed bugs as looking like apple seeds. Bed bugs look like bed bugs. It's important to familiarize yourself with good images of nymph and adult bed bugs, their waste material, and their shed skins to be able to properly identify unknown insects you may come across in your home or while on the road.
