Neochmia temporalis.

When I got home this morning there was a flock of red-browed finches on the driveway. I carefully got the camera out pointed it out the door of the car. After several minutes they ignored me and gradually hopped closer until I could get some relatively close shots (this one is cropped though, they didn't get that close).

It's a bit noisy as I had to shoot at ISO 1600 to get enough shutter speed to ensure the birds weren't blurred (dark overcast day here today).

Turquoise-browed Motmot - Eumomota superciliosa - Синебровый момот

Taken outside in the shade. I tried to focus on the word and make the flowers blurry. Brought up contrast and saturation in lightroom.

Karen took this one. I love the dramatic shadows the grass makes on itself.

These small birds are very good at passing unseen in the thick of the vegetation. I am quite happy with the photo, as it illustrates everything you need to identify this bird: The white eye brows, the white wing pattern, the striated breast, the brown rump, the fine bill, the length of the tail, and both the bird's stretched and its puffed posture.

To ask for some light on this pair would have been too much. These birds seldom leave the protection of low and dense vegetation.

To hear its call - which is, however, not typical of this region - follow this link:

Black-browed Albatross - Falkland Islands

This lovely pathway will soon take me down off the high ground of Sherburn Brow towards the village of the same name. I'll need to get some water there to see me through the night, the shadows grow long and I need to get ready for the joys of the horizontal! Nothing like a daily hike over 25 miles to make me appreciate the pleasures of the sack!

Shot from Puthenvelikkara, Ernakulam...

The White-browed Bulbul is about 20 cm (7 inches) in length, with a long tail. It has olive-grey upperparts and whitish underparts. This species is identified by the white supercilium, white crescent below the eye, and dark eyestripe and moustachial stripe. Sexes are similar in plumage. It is usually detected by the burst of song that it produces from the top of a bush and often dives into the bush becoming difficult to see

Red-browed finch tends to position itself amongst the protective vegetation. Mangrove belt’s and forest adjacent to open county; in scrubland and gardens near cities.
