I saw an article in the Courier-Journal yesterday saying to expect "billions of bugs," but I had no idea until I went to the park today just how many of these guys there would be. Cicadas have absolutely blanketed Long Run Park.
Brooding is an art like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. I do it so it feels like hell. I guess you could say I've a calling.

Picked up 2 10" Brooder Lights w/ clamps ($22) and 2 90 watt diffused flood lamps ($11) for my low budget garage studio.
We worden uitgenodigd voor een lunch bij een lokale bewoner. In een open eethuisje gaat het heel gezellig!
Op een hevig vuur in een diepe kuil wordt op de hete wandbekleding heel handig uitgerolde brooddeeg geworpen. Na enkele seconden kunnen de brood/pannekoeken door middel van een lange vork, opgepikt worden van de hete wand. Heerlijk smullen is dit!
Op een rooster boven de opening worden naar wens groenten en vlees geroosterd.

Once again a hero. The late Herman Brood. One of the only true Rock'nRollers of Holland. Not only a gifted musician and songwriter but also a very talented and truly original painter...... Gone too soon
There you are!! It took me a minute, but there's hundreds of larvae in the bottoms of these cells! You can see the curl of their white bodies in the bottom of the cells, and they're all beautiful, fat little gals.
The scaled cap to the right is the capping that goes on top of brood, so the queen is definitely laying, regularly, and in beautiful numbers. It's amazing to see all this, and to realize that she's not just all right, she's doing amazingly well.
