When the Universe closes a door, somewhere it opens a window.

Over a hundred people joined Ramarley Graham’s family; other families of those killed by the police; members of the Justice Committee; Jews for Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ); Black, Jewish leaders and other Jews of Color; Jewish New Yorkers from across the five boroughs; and Black Lives Matter-NY at Grand Central station, for a public action and vigil in conjunction with Beyond The Moment’s National Day of Action on April 4, 2017; followed by a march through midtown Manhattan to demand from the Mayor and the NYPD commissioner more accountability in the Ramarley Graham case and an end to Broken Windows Policing in NYC

Hundreds of people took to the streets on March 28, 2018; to protest in New York City over the fatal police shooting of Stephon Clark, an unarmed black man in Sacramento, California; chanting and carrying signs as they marched from Columbus Circle to Times Square. Police say at least 11 people were detained. It was not immediately clear what charges they could face. (Photo by Erik McGregor)

Ruins of the once fashionable Odeon cinema in downtown Lisbon. Opened in 1927 with the American silent film "The Merry Widow" directed by Erich von Stroheim. The metal galleries with multi-coloured window panes were added in the course of a renovation in the 1930's. The cinema closed in 1993 and has since become one of too many pathetic eyesores in central Lisbon.

This was what I saw when I looked through the broken window. The most valuable thing in the car, my new 70-200mm L lens, was sitting on the seat. The only thing missing* from the van was Rob's 30GB video iPod, worth about half the price of this lens!

Apparently the thieves that broke into our van in Detroit last night are Nikon users...

*Edit: Cleaning up the car today and noticed that also taken were my prescription sunglasses, a multimedia storage device, an emergency radio and Kayleigh's old Gameboy Advance. Re: the sunglasses - what a stupid thing to steal, fat lot of good they will do anyone who doesn't need my prescription! Unfortunately, all of these items total to just a bit above our deductable so it may not be worth filing a claim since we won't get enough back to replace everything anyway. :(

Another forgotten day. May has 31 days, turns out? Who knew?

I vaguely remember doing some exploratory scouting. This church looked promising, but also looked far too close to collapse for me to trust the entryway I found, so I just took an exterior shot. I also found a neat old school, but the doors appeared to be all welded shut. Hopefully someone who's more comfortable with breaking added to their entering creates an ingress for me.

Another shot of the home at Panorama Point which I found recently had been trashed. It is really upsetting. The developer who built this development had gone to much expense and trouble to save Panorama Point next door, probably not thinking that it would be used for drinking parties int he dark of night. Now this is his reward.

New York City Council Member Andy L. King speaking at One Police Plaza in lower Manhattan to demand Mayor de Blasio to fire all the NYPD officers responsible for the death of Ramarley Graham four years ago, the brutalization of his family at the scene, and the ensuing coverup. Istanbul, June 8th 2016, the day after a car bomb took the lives of 11 people and left many shopkeepers recovering from the blast. It so happened I was staying in a hotel in the same street.

I had literally JUST parked the car at the Bluffs Lodge parking lot when I got out of the car and realized the dome light of the car was on. I pulled the handle and a quick 'oh no!' came out of my mouth. The door did not open! The keys were still in the ignition, my phone was sitting on the seat. I was locked out!

Not to mention, the wind was coooold and HOWLING yesterday.

I kept trying both doors and the hatchback as maybe they would magically unlock themselves, and they did not.

The situation was a little tricky, because the Bluffs Lodge, a closed building, is located at the very end of the parkway miles after the detour, there are no thoroughfares(there is zero traffic here) for many miles, and I had no phone.

I was about to smash one of the back windows, when I realized the little tiny front window. I hit it a few times with my spiked tripod feet, which did nothing. I turned the tripod around and smashed my Giottos tripod head right through no problem!

I then went on to take a photo that wasn't worth any of this whole ordeal.

My first messages to my wife(who was in DC for the weekend) went as follows:

Me: You love me no matter what, right?

Her What did you do

Me: Well, the good thing is I am safe and sound!

After looking at the map, I supposed I could have bushwhacked to a nearby house, but without a map I really didn't know any were there. Oh well, the new window was 67 dollars, it'll be ok:)

My photoshoot scheduled for Monday ended up not happening, so I wandered off to scout out some abandoned buildings. While walking down the street, I just happened to randomly come across Molly and Ben, who were doing the exact same thing.

(I saw their car driving really slowly up the road and it was creeping me out a bit, and they drove right up next to me and rolled down the window and creeped me out a lot. Then I figured out who they were and I was slightly less creeped out)

Found a location that I think would make a great photoshoot spot, then took them to the place I went with Heather the other day. I have more success urbexing with partners since they sort of spur me to be a bit more bold in my exploration, plus we can collaborate on the different spots we know.

Random little grocery store and chinese restaurant near my house burned down. I was feeling lazy, so I went and took like 10 quick pictures around there and called it a day.

First day! I feel really excited about this job, and I'm really happy, and being happy makes me feel guilty because the world is on FUCKING FIRE right now.

But first day went really well. I like this place so far.

The broken windshield I mentioned on Day 337. I don't think it actually managed to make a hole all the way through, but still very no fun.

An old, abandoned, and long-forgotten house. Creeping vines and broken windows are nature's way of saying "Don't even think about going inside!"

More non-trespassionate urbex! If your school is called Lyon School (after some dude named Lyon), it seems like it's just cheating to make your mascot the Lions, but that's what they did. That's probably why they had to close the school.

I was unable to find the secret passageway to the secret attic. Perhaps it only appears if you are truly pure of heart, or perhaps there's some intricate and eldritch puzzle you need to complete that causes a wall to slide out and the ladder to appear. Whatever the way up is, I couldn't find it, and I felt like a failure.

We interviewed a Russian in his late 40s on the front porch of this house in 2003 in conjunction with several high profile murders that are still unsolved today.

Now in 2008 the house is boarded up and our pal is long gone.

This photo is interesting because whoever lived there last couldn't afford windows but could afford TWO mini satellite dishes?

Twitter Photo Challenge #25 is "Sports". As I'm among the least interested in sports that I know, this isn't exactly a topic that chimes my bell. Or whatever.

Still, I live close to a sports hall, and I have to walk by it to get to the library. Today I noticed that the handball practice inside had been tougher than usual, so I snapped this shot.
