Macro Mondays - Redux 2018
May 7: Jagged
Some broken concrete on my porch. This close you would think that there is a gapping crack on the porch. The total length of this portion of the crack is about 4 cm (1.5 in).
Happy New Year!
My little drip and tear "drop"... no splash though...
Macro Monday project – 12/07/09
“Drips, Drops and Splashes”
“The broken branch hissed loudly, and then that
wind was converted into these words: "Briefly will
you be answered.
When the fierce soul departs from the body from
which it has uprooted itself, Minos sends it to the
seventh mouth.
It falls into the wood, and no place is assigned to
it, but where chance hurls it, there it sprouts like a
grain of spelt.
It grows into a shoot, then a woody plant; the
Harpies, feeding on its leaves, give it pain and a
window for the pain.
Like the others, we will come for our remains, but
not so that any may put them on again, for it is not
just to have what one has taken from oneself.
Here we will drag them, and through the sad
wood our corpses will hang, each on the thorn brush"
of the soul that harmed it.”
― Dante Alighieri, Inferno

Here's the story: I accidentally smashed my $1,600 24mm 1.4 L-lens after taking it ouf of my backpack. Since I always look on the bright side of things, I saw this as a challenge to grow. Let's create a set with a broken cam that can't even focus anymore. This is what I came up with:
A trippy & abstract photo set dipped in red about broken characters captured with a broken lens by a former broken soul. I took this set in the drug-filled, sex-addicted veins of the most liberal city on earth: Amsterdam! An incredibly intense 3-week journey of getting to know all drug dealers and sex workers personally, feeling the liberating, but sometimes rather creepy vibe on the streets and eventually being accepted as the creative soul of this unique district.

Found this strange object while walking in Rincon Valley Community Park in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California. Taken with my iPhone 14 Pro Max set to Raw and Macro settings.
If you have children, usually you also have pencils which are broken. But in this case, the childs are not guilty! I simply don't found any broken pencil, so I did it myself. My youngest has already complained about it. But when he heard, that this was for Macro Mondays, he has kindly agreed to this destructive act.
I hope it was worth it - what do you think? HMM!
Here is my seventeenth build for my Iron Builder round against Letranger Absurde.
The special part is that broken "pithfork".

I say a few things...

Why not view the set as a slide-show?
Also I often upload more than one image at the same time, I see a tendency to only view the last uploaded...
My trek down Moffat road ended with the nice discovery of Moffat Tunnel. It is a railroad tunnel that cuts through the Continental Divide. (photo soon!) It opened in 1928. At the site are several abandoned cabins, severely vandalized and broken down. I was surprised to see furniture still in them....of course rotting amongst the debris of falling roofs and neglect. The wind blew very strong that day and the curtains in the windows would first blow in, and then get sucked back out to billow and flap. It was a forlorn and empty feeling watching the curtains, which came to life with the wind, only to be dead and lonely again once the wind stopped.

Broken Arch in Arches National Park shot a few summers ago. Both the foreground and the sky are stacked for noise reduction. Can you see the ghostly figure in the lower right corner? One of our students was shooting the arch while my camera was running... Have a great night!
We don't usually keep broken stuff, so I had to think long and hard about this one.
My mom's artist friend made this necklace for me - beads and all - many years ago. After years of wearing, a piece broke off the main pendant, but I don't have the heart to throw it away.
And so it remains in my jewelry box, lovely but useless.
Maybe I should try glueing the bed to the wire so it can't spin, then I could probably wear it again and no one would be the wiser.
Thought about doing a macro on my wife's cell phone. Tried to capture the broken screen (which breaks like within 2 weeks after every fix)
7 Days of Shooting: Week #20 - Blue. Shoot Anything Saturday
It fell from my hand...and obviously the automatic thing to do was take a picture. Finally came in handy.
Rocks (from previous hoodoos?) forming a broken circle on a slickrock slope with an impressive hoodoo in the background. (A confession: The two rocks in the immediate foreground came from a Lightroom AI modification. There was one big rock in the foreground that I thought was too dominant and distracting, so I used the AI removal tool to"break" the rock into smaller parts).

A selection of old chalks, no idea really why we still have a tubful of these, the boys are now 21 and 25.
