Royal Air Force Lockheed L-1011 TriStar KC1 ZD952 is seen parked on the passenger ramp at RAF Brize Norton, with its days severely numbered. The first of this type of aircraft had already been scrapped when this was taken, this example being scrapped on Wednesday 10th September 2014. The RAF was the last operator in the World to use these aircraft, too. Later that night, ZD952 departed to Afghanistan, carrying Troops to combat. 24/11/13.
Now on display at Newquay as part of the Classic Air Force collection, Vickers VC10 ZA148 is pictured doing 'rollers' at RAF Brize Norton.

It seems like I'm not going to get any peace until I turn my attention to the Brion tomb, soooooo by popular request, I'll finally get around to posting a few shots of this iconic place. When I got back from my trip, I thought I would have a hard time deciding which ones *not* to post, but now, after a healthy break of a few months, I think it will be more like searching for a few that are good enough. Always good to let the waters settle a bit.
It was my second visit to the cemetary (hard to beleive, but the first time was 20 years ago) and I was even more taken with it this time, but that didn't really suprise me. The plan looks simple enough, but there is so much going on it is difficult to grasp.
The perfection in which everything is executed is truley stunning, especially if one has tried building in concrete onesself, regardless of the complexity of the form.
Looking at this again, I have to think about if Scarpa (atheist that he was) went to the same sunday-school class that I did back in the 70's.......there is an uncanny resemblance to the God's Eyes that we used to make:

At the Dry Bridge Market in Tbilishi, Georgia, one can find Soviet-era memorabilia, military uniforms, coins, records, cameras, household items and all sorts of bric-a-brac.
Here, a figurine next to a photo of Josef Stalin, or Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili, born in Georgia in the Russian quarter of Gori. There’s a controversial museum in his hometown, defiantly built one year after Khrushchev denounced Stalin and his crimes in 1957. The museum was officially closed in 1989, and was open for a while only to school visits, but the pretence of closure has long ended and it is again open to everyone. In Gori, Stalin, possibly the only important figure to come out of the place, is revered as the “strong man", while his atrocities and war crimes are often ignored, or taken in misbelief..
