Considering Masham is such a tiny place it was a surprise to discover it has two high profile breweries: Theakston and Black Sheep. Both have visitors centres and shops and do brewery tours. www.theakstons.co.uk/

The former Norwich Brewery.

Watney Mann acquired the buildings that were previously Morgans Brewery in August 1961. The separate company Watney Mann (East Anglia) Ltd carried out brewing from April 1962.

Following the acquisition of the remaining independent Norwich breweries, Bullards and Steward & Patteson, Watney Mann announced plans to concentrate all local brewing at the former Morgans Brewery site in King Street in July 1969. The brewery was extensively modernised between 1969 and 1971.

Production was geared to keg beer including Norwich Bitter and Norwich Mild - not to mention the infamous Starlight.

About that period the breweries of Bullards (1968) and S&P (1970) were finally closed down.

In 1970 a new building was erected to house a continuous fermenting plant, it was erected on the site of the original brewhouse.

Grand Metropolitan Hotels took full control of Watney Mann in 1972.

The Norwich Brewery Company was formed in 1976 and an attempt was made to reproduce the cask conditioned ales that had disappeared with the demise of the other local breweries.

In 1984 S&P Bitter appeared in Norfolk houses alongside Bullards Mild which had been introduced in 1981.

With countrywide lager sales increasing it was decided that the King Street premises could not meet future demand and closure was announced 12th January 1985. Production ceased at the end of April 1985. 155 jobs were lost.

The last S&P Bitter was sold in December 1987. Brewed in Wiltshire since 1985, S&P Bitter was said to be inconsistent and was to be replaced with Ruddles Best. The brewery was completely demolished around the year 2005, so ending a 400 year old tradition of brewing in the area.

Shots from the visit to a craft brewery.

This huge modern building houses the 'Camden Town Brewery'. Its over 8 miles from Camden Town. You can see its not a micro-brewery. Nor is it independent. Its owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, a multinational producing a high proportion of all the beer in the world. Famous for such quality craft beers as Bud Light and Corona.....

Colorado Springs, CO - I have no idea who these people were but I'm guessing why they were here. It's Redleg Brewing and they make great beer plus the environment is inviting and they have ski chairs. It's dog-friendly and they also allow people to.

The Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery operated in Peoria Heights, Illinois from 1934 until 1982.

Milwaukee-based Blatz operated from 1851 - 1959, when the label was sold to Pabst. According to Wikipedia, Blatz is currently brewed in Milwaukee by Miller under license to Pabst.

The Blatz truck and my position here are both in the parking lot of neighboring Ben Schwarz food mart on Prospect, the main drag in Peoria Heights, where the truck was probably making a delivery.

The wonderful texture and detail of the Brewery door at Lacock Abbey caught my eye while walking around there in the summer. Notice the two keyholes.

This is Dunkel...yes, named after a beer. He goes to many breweries with us - more than many humans have been too. We are at Horse and Dragon here, in Fort Collins, CO.

Royal Brewery building in downtown Honolulu, HI. Built in 1899 it's the oldest building related to brewing in Hawaii.

Photographed with an Olympus OM-2n using a Zuiko Auto-s 50mm f/1.4 lens. The film is Kodak Ektachrome 100.

Originaly the brewery was built for Cains, over the arches to the section furthes from the river are the initials RC (robert Cain). the end of the building closest to the river is built out of a slightly different red brick and enscribed with the name Higsons. after the brewery was bought out, extra space was created including the 'built in' pub, the Tap.

We were prepared for the entry of this brewery. This was not the first time we stood here, as last time we had to leave without entering.

This time we succeeded. Took some blood, sweat and tears but we got in.

A nice old brewery where a lot of the copper kettles are still there. Well, partly. Unfortunately also the copper thieves found this abandoned brewery. But chunks have already been cutted of the copper and have probably been sold for huge amounts of money. Such a shame for a beauty like this....

The dwarves' brewery is a modular set:

- the tower is used to store the grain and is accessible through a ladder (or in case of the grain: a crane)

- the brewery has all the necessary brewing equipment (naive assumption: I have no clue how to brew beer)

- the cellar is used to store the barrels filled with beer

- a pig powered carriage transports the barrels to the customers (operated by UPS: United Pig Service)

The Imperial Brewery was the brainchild of St. Louis investors. The original cost of construction was estimated at $50,000 for a brewing capacity of 50,000 barrels per year.

From 1890 to 1910, Kansas City’s population nearly doubled to 248,000, as did the manufacturing sector. Part of the growth is attributed to demand from local breweries and public demand for good lager beer.

In 1905, the Imperial Brewing Company elected a new president and general manager, Edwin Becker, who inherited a financially stressed operation. The first mortgage note was unpaid, and creditor claims further threatened the operation. By fall, the Brewery was formally bankrupt, ultimately purchased by the Ferd Heim Brewing Company as a branch of the newly formed Kansas City Breweries Company.

In 1910, the new conglomerate made further improvements to the Brewery, increasing production to over 338,300 barrels per year. The Imperial and Mayflower brands were no longer the top sellers.

The Imperial Brewing Company Brewery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 11, 2011. Dean Realty Co., owner, is presently exploring development options for the site that could include joint ventures and other exciting collaborations.

Sold to a milling company in 1919, the Brewery building most recently featured the workings of a flour mill rather than Brewery. Old sifters, intricate conveyor systems and mill equipment have been removed throughout the building.
