Don't leave me this way

I can't survive, I can't stay alive

Without your love, oh baby

Don't leave me this way

You broke my heart when you left me without explanation. We had started talking about house, baby, ...

I would have liked so much if we had had arguments, if we had no more desires for each other, if you had left me for another one. But nothing!

It took me months to understand that it was out of cowardice. Like blocking me on your phone to stop all dialogue.

I drowned my sorrows in alcohol and drugs. If my family and friends hadn't supported me, I wouldn't be here. And you weren't worth it!

Finally, we will not walk together until tomorrow! Our song ...

Spring is almost here. The ice in Picton Bay is breaking up.

Not my usual kind of post but kind a liked how it turned out in mono.

It has warmed up the last few days so the ice floes are breaking up. So nice to see them floating down the river.

More art about the breaking up....

More work about the breaking up.

More work about the breaking up.

You and me against the world

Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world

When all the others turn their back and walk away

You can count on me to stay

Temperatures in the low 70's for awhile today with the very high winds. Back to winter for most of the week.

I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time, walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme. You know my love goes with you as your love stays with me, it's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea, but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie, your eyes are soft with sorrow.

Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

I hate doing self portraits because it makes me feel very egotistical. However, this picture is a bit old and a very symbolic for me. I didn't want to make a simple picture, so here is materialized what I felt when my old relationship broke up.

Inside us there is always the rotten. The rotting is required to be transmuted into life.

We live in a world of duality. Angels and Demons incite us and eventually we lost ourselves not knowing where to go.

"This morning I heard the angels. They kissed my face to make me smile.

We never touch, help me remember that I still believe in something beautiful.

I'm crying, pick me up, you're all I need.

In the winter, all the angels sit between us and wish we could know.

I'd like to tell you how much, but the words here are hard for me too. "

The line between love and passion is tenuous,

We aim to spirituality,

We leave the putrid matter dominate.

I hope that between angels and demons I can awaken the light that lives in the midst of my shadows.

You have the power to awaken the best of me, as the worst. I'm tired of destroying myself for you.

I see your imminent suffering, and there's nothing I can do.

I'm disengaging, and I hope that you can be happy on your own way...

...winter moving into spring.

At least there are some signs of spring, with a couple of days with weather that at least looks like spring.

Last week, along the Waterfront Park shoreline in Bath, an expansive field of thinning and fractured ice sheets shattered the sounds akin to breaking china dishes, wind-driven pass stranded layered ice structures that had been pushed up on shore, the latter with the exception of a few icicles, remained substantially dry in the still freezing air, giving the expiring winter a few more breaths.

This shot was an accident. I hadn't meant to photograph a bubble popping. It was a very happy accident though. It showed me that it's possible to photograph a bubble bursting!

There's some editing here to bring out the popping effect on the bottom left. The editing is curves adjustment, a sharpen, some highlight, and saturation.

I didn't think the relatively slow shutter speed of 1/200 would capture the bubble popping, but it has. Take a CLOSE LOOK at that bottom left hand corner. It's weird alright! It looks like it's imploding. I'd suspect that the whole process of popping happens in 1/100th of a second - it's just too quick to see. So, to have it popping while still being able to see the reflection - it's a rare moment!

The strange thing about popping, I think, is that it's neither really an explosion or an implosion (I might be wrong on this though), because the air inside isn't a higher or lower pressure than outside. Does that make sense. Maybe it's ever so slightly higher, but surely it can't be much higher, as the soap/water film is just that, a very thin film. It's more a peeling or unzipping!

The ice pack on Lake Michigan shows signs of breaking up as the end of a very bitter winter draws near. Shelf ice encases sand and shoots skyward more than 20 feet above the surface of the lake.

I have to admit I did a very stupid thing to get this shot. For years I have told anyone who would listen about the dangers of shelf ice and to never go on it. When I arrived at Lake Michigan on Saturday there were people standing all along the high ridges of the shelf. The ice shelf is at least 100 yards from shore and above deep water. People have fallen through soft spots on these before into Lake Michigan with no way out. It's amazing how lemming like we can be in these circumstances and think "Everybody's doing it." I followed another persons footprints out and stayed on those and convinced myself that was okay.

My wife reminded me on my return that it was not. But at least that means she still wants me around. I think....

AOP Student Award Competition 2009

For months i has been pondering over the idea of building an entire set inspired by "Get Carter". This competition allowed me the opportunity to do just that. I created the entire set from scratch with the help of a set builder. This was about attention to detail, with the right model being the finishing touch.

The key is backlighting.

Strobist: bowens 1000w espirit camera right behind model, 1/2 power through barn doorns for rim. bowens 1000w espirit camera left behind model about 9 ft up,1/4 power through grid spot. white polyboard 4ft from model for fill.
