The Breakers was built between 1893 and 1894 as the Summer Home of Cornelius Vanderbilt. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1994
it was so bright out that it was hard to believe that it was so foggy at 4 in the afternoon. my hair got wet, what with being in a cloud on the breakers. rumor has it, there's a lighthouse just past the end.

As the wave hit the breaker, the sea roared up. I pelted back landward, and the lens cap flew off its tether and about 20 feet into the air. It hovered for a second, banked out to the Channel and hurtled down. My language wasn't quite so poetic at the time.
