The Breakers East section of the Hotel Breakers. Breakers East had opened up in 1995. It was the first addition to the Hotel Breakers since the Bon Air section had opened up in 1926!

The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America.
The weather on the last day of my tour of New England was very nice. I started the day with a visit to the Breakers, a mansion that used to be the summer residence of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and his family in Newport, RI.
