The recipe says "saute until translucent", then add cream. I sauted the hell out of it, because I couldn't figure out when "translucent" technically was.

This is Scheiterhaufen or "Heap of Sticks", a German-style bread pudding with shredded apple. Best eaten hot with some creamy vanilla sauce, or drizzled with a little whiskey.

When I saw that French Laundry's Thomas Keller has opened this place, I decided it was the place for our last meal in Vegas. Sadly, it wasn't listed in the brochure or on the Venetian map, despite have posters for it everywhere. Luckily, I am resourceful and called the Venetian to see what was up. And low and behold, we managed to find our way up to the restaurant (taking a separate elevator from the rest of the hotels amenities).
The French toast was lovely. Much like a break pudding with caramelized apples. It was delish, but I kinda wish I had had a pain du chocolat or some other pastry with my latte instead. Next time...

Based on Kenny Shopsin's recipe from his book "Eat Me: The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin." French toast using chunks of parsley, sage, and oregano-seasoned baguette instead of traditional bread.

A bit cooler today on my walk with Bonny.
After breakfast I continued my quest to get a virtual PC running on my Mac. I had a couple of lucky breakthroughs and I'm pleased to say that I did it. I then installed some software on it, although this wasn't quite a straightforward. One of the applications was from 2003!
After lunch I took Bonny into Worcester. This was to visit the newly re-opened Commandery coffee shop by the canal. It was the first day of opening and by all accounts, they had been busy. The reason for me going along was that it is the same chap that runs the coffee/cafe shop at The Firs (Elgar's birthplace museum). He was pleased that I had made the effort to go along.
Once done, Bonny and I walked along the canal towpath to the locks at Diglis. I showed Bonny my 'other' office but she was just keen on sniffing the smells. We then walked along the river back to the city and then home.

Stellt die Kassarolle oder Backform in den vorgeheizten Ofen und stellt den Brotpudding in diese. Danach gießt das Wasser in die untere Form. Es sollten ca. 2/3 der kleineren Schüssel im Wasser verschwinden, damit die Hitze des Wassers die Eier stocken kann. Schiebt vorsichtig, wirklich vorsichtig, das ganze in den Ofen zurück und gönnt Euch eine Pause von ca. 40-45 Minuten.
A festive dessert of bread pudding with dried cranberries, cinnamon and cardamom. Served with a proper English custard.
