A pair of Wilson's snipes forage in the shallow and vegetation-covered water of Pilant Lake, Brazos Bend State Park. These birds are well-camouflaged by their markings, with one fairly visible at the center of the image and another, almost invisible, just to its right.

This gator appeared out of nowhere to get this turtle. The turtle never had a chance.

Reasons to obey the signs that say 'No Swimming' in this lake. The water level from the flooding due to Hurricane Harvey in 2017 is visible here as the darker color of the lower parts of the trees. It results from the floodwater killing the lichens on the surfaces of the tree trunks. More than two years later, the flood's effects are still visible.
It was too hot and dry for birds, gators or people, but the clouds were pretty cool.

The Anhinga, sometimes called Snakebird, Darter, American Darter, or Water Turkey at Brazos Bend State Park. Their feathers are not waterproof, so they have to dry out.
They kinda look like dragons when they are like this.
