I didn't take this pic... but I wanted to post it as an update to my images. I friend of mine knows a park ranger at Brazos Bend and that park ranger is the author of this image. I don't know if it was taken the same day or even some days later, but it looks like it might be the same BIG gator with the leftovers of the lunch we saw him with.
This one gave me the shivers!!!! I am glald that I was not sitting on that park bench in the background!!!! I also wonder what the joy was in hauling his lunch back and forth across the trail??
Too many names Anhinga, Snakebird, Water Turkey, American Darter.
Anhinga is a Brazilian Tupi indian language word meaning snake bird when swimming only the neck and head show looks like a snake about to strike.
This bird dominated the pool. He spent most of his time watching from the edge, but would occasionally walk a circle through the area to push the egrets back. He did not hesitate to get into the faces of those who did not back away fast enough.
I don't usually like messy backgrounds, but this one works for me..
I'm not sure if this is one of the guys who posts here or not. He had a great position on this bird.
