Tonight I had a rather large brainwave to what I want to do for my A2 photography course. It's certainly ambitious but I will fight blood, sweat and tears to fulfil this shoot. It's the most excited I've been about something for a long time!
On this trail I remember being irritated for a while as I couldn't seem to find anywhere to stand to compose a photo where the trail could be seen.
I did contemplate switching to a wider angle lens (which is often the "easy way out") but then I had a bit of a brainwave.
Seeing the trail wasn't important. This part of the ride was about being in amidst tightly packed spindly trees.
So I decided to make the picture be about the tightly packed spindly trees.
I hiked off into the undergrowth to get a bit of distance between me and the rider. Then I zoomed in. A longer focal length often compresses the perspective of a scene. This made the trees look suitably close together.
I positioned the rider quite far down the frame (slightly below the "rule of thirds" blah-blah) so as to place the emphasis on the tall trees stretching out above the rider's head.
Work with your environment, not against it.
Sarah Français' Alpha Project was performed at the Second Nature festival in Aix-en-Provence (France). Music was played live by Greg Lion and Rorre Ecco (Beat Pleasure).
The brainwaves of the dancers were monitored thanks to EMOTIV's EPOC neuroheadset and transformed in real-time in digital visual art projected while the dancers were performing. It offered a new dimension to the artistic performance allowing dancers to express themselves with their bodies and their brains.
