HISTORY
Pillar built circa May 1949, cost not on record. Computed as primary triangulation station PP378 within Figure 6 of the OSGB36 retriangulation network during 1951. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary blocks NC85 (Tongue) in 1954, and NC35 (Cape Wrath) during 1955. The flush bracket was levelled to second class precision with the reconnaissance of secondary triangulation block NC85 during 1954. The final pre-GPS maintenance by the Ordnance Survey was in June 1985. This marker continues to be maintained by the OS as a GPS passive station.
SITE VISIT
Approached from southeast. Parked in large road end turning circle at NC563634, Dalvraid / West Strathan. Walked 340m back along road to mapped track which leads beyond the 170m contour line in the hill. Continued to the gate at the top left corner of the fenced plot then a near beeline route upwards to the summit. Pillar inside substatial wind shelter. Column good condition, GPS plate fading. Spider retains OS centre cap with shallow engraved lettering. Flush bracket faces ESE, compass measurement 111°. Vented through NW sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view includes Cnoc An Fhreiceadain, Ben Loyal and Ben Hope.

This HDR image shows where the second hands were during the bracketed exposures. 2 of the exposures are clearly visible, and if you look closely, you may be able to see the third.
Also, of course, Mickey Mouse and time are inseparable.
