BR Large Logo liveried 37418 "An Comunn Gaidhealach" is seen making at quick pitstop at Preston station on the afternoon of Saturday 11th November 2023. The English Electric Type 3 was working the "Blackpool Illuminations Explorer" rail tour from Birmingham New Street to Blackpool North for well, the Blackpool Illuminations... The tour was booked to run straight through the station but was running a few minutes late and was signal checked on the approach to the station and pegged for around two minutes before departing in a sensible and non-thrashy manner :(
This was not the shot that I had planned but lo-and-behold my airline's crewing department gave me a rude awakening at 3am to come in and do a flight halfway across Europe. Since saying no was not an option I went to work but dutifully took my camera with me "just in case" as I worked out than an early arrival to Manchester and getting a slightly earlier train would mean I could get my desired shot at Wigan. Unfortunately despite an early arrival, things were conspiring to delay me (we were parked on an airbridge so it took ages to get everyone off the aircraft through one exit instead of two etc...) I missed my train by 4 minutes, rather than give up I jumped on an express to Preston and had to settle for a shot there some 11 years after vowing never to return for shooting...
There was a bit of a kerfuffle on the platform between a group of lads and another spotter, they'd moved along the platform and were now in everyone's way. Rather than join in the debate I settled to keep to one side and hope for the best (in uniform so had to behave), fortunately it quietened down as the train approached but sadly one lad kept moving into shot so I had to trim my footage a bit. Still, it's better than no shot ;) Also, never going back there again hahaha.
On the plus side it was nice to be breifly reunited with this loco having driven her on numerous occasions during her time at the East Lancashire Railway, this was the first time I'd seen 37418 since she left under somewhat dubious circumstances back in 2017...
The official working was;

70 houses of the same style and architecture sited along
either side of the straight road and rail leading to the plant.
The town has a school, a medical post, bakery, club and a
