Altered this little domino box that I found at a car boot sale today.

AA Box, Aysgarth, Wensleydale, 13 Jul 2021

I love the way the Yellow Loosestrife complements the AA Yellow.

In the early 1960s there were 862 AA sentry boxes scattered around the country.

It is thought that 21 of the original AA boxes remain in situ at the roadside.

Most of these are now listed buildings.

The Aysgarth box is Grade II listed.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Ah, one of the first of many zoo themed Barbies in my collection. It's thanks to this Barbie that I now have a weird knack for looking at a doll and thinking she might be zoo themed. I was super perplexed by her when I acquired this doll in 2014. She was part of the infamous "Memorial Day Weekend Yard Sale Lot." The Saturday of the holiday weekend that year, my sister and I made a trip to the town dump. Sure, it sounds inconvenient having to haul your trash to the transfer station (rather than putting out on the side of the street to be picked up). But it's a lot cheaper AND it was a pit stop to the dump that lead to us finding a HUGE lot of dolls. There were three boxes and a separate cruise ship piled on the edge of someone's lawn. After discarding all our garbage and recycling, we returned to investigate. It was a charity yard sale, so you chose what to "pay" for the items (or you could simply take it for free, since it was at the end of the day). We donated ten dollars, and picked out a bunch of stuff (one box was left behind). Barbie was fortunate that she was in one of the boxes we took. I did sort through the masses of dolls, and left behind duplicated dolls that would be hard to dress (like Bratz Babyz) and a few types that I simply didn't collect. These days I would have taken it all! There were so many Barbies from the mid 2000s...and era I was not all too familiar with. It was also hard researching them at the time. When these dolls were in stores, social media (specifically the doll end of it) wasn't really huge. So people weren't documenting the dolls as they were purchased brand new. Photos on eBay were also more limited. But I somehow managed to identify this lady. I was excited to find that I had parts of her outfit too! She's very charming--I like her two ponytail hair style and her very simple, yet classic facial screening.

Arbroath North box still carries its old name-board today, even though it lost its South sibling in 1971.

The building and its setting look very different now, however. The signal box was altered under Railtrack's refurbishment programme, while the industrial premises which enclosed it to the north and east have long since gone.

Inaugural piece of a series exploring the insides of boxes.

Packaged very differently than the pullips! It's a pretty box tho. I'd seen a J-Doll before, but this was my first time seeing a J-Doll box...

These are the photo boxes where I keep my Moleskine notebooks as well as some of the nicer journals. What doesn't fit in them is kept in the same armoire until I get another box.

Brayton Signal Box was a NER designed box that was situated south of Selby on the East Coast Main Line. It controlled rail traffic at Brayton Junction which was the route from Selby off to the port town of Goole which branched off the ECML. It became a Gate Box in 1973 controlling the level crossing and closed on 6th March 1988. The box has long been demolished.

These pieces HAVE to be shipped in a box, there really is no other way! These are wedding favour boxes and shallow so the lid is kind of balanced on the ring edge when it's closed - the answer? Tie it up with ribbon etc, gives and excuse to froo froo it up with a label and a button!

Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.

Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.

Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’

Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.
