I absolutely hate it when my ribbon begins to unravel and tangle - what a mess! I created this pretty ribbon storage box with a shoebox and some magazine images, and it works great! Check out the howto below:

The resident 'exhibition' signalman passes on his knowledge and skill on to a young lad who was throwing the levers. This box is 'wired up' to a manual simulator where a chap in an adjacent railway coach operates the bells and track circuit indications demonstrating how this box worked in it's day. Very impressive!!!

Silver and White were the wedding colors. These are cardboard boxes covered with fabric, ribbon, bead trim, and bows.

Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.
Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.
Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’
Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.

This painting was a demonstration painting for a workshop in Mt. Shasta, California. This subject matter is near the headwaters of the Sacramento River, on a "catch and release" trout stream at Cantara Loop, just south of Mt. Shasta city. Luckily, this marvelous stretch of water has miraculously recovered from a toxic spill of some years ago.

I built it for my old man as a Father's day gift.

Made these boxes to store music (CDs --and old tapes we don't want to part with) from scratch, using recycled materials only.
I cut pieces of cardboard from discarded big sturdy boxes and I created the narrow & deep boxes I needed. I fixed the corners with masking tape and then used strips of torn old newspapers to cover the boxes with several layers, papier maché style (using homemade flour glue.)
Once the boxes were very sturdy, I painted them black and proceeded to decorate them using clippings from my collection of junk mail (catalogues and magazines that continue to arrive in the mail, unrequested).
They help us keep that music section organized and I like the colors.
