The red telephone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1924 and is a familiar sight on our streets. Despite a reduction in their numbers in recent years, the traditional British red telephone box can still be seen in many places throughout the UK although most of them, including this one, are in poor condition and often do not now contain a telephone. The colour red was chosen to make them easy to spot. Between 1924 and 1985 approximately 314,000 telephone boxes were installed around the UK.
The town where I used to live in SC was in watermelon country. This roadside stand near where I used to live operated on trust. Just stop and pick out a melon and put your money in the Honesty Box.
I created this box using an empty Altoids candy tin box. I covered the top with Sculpey Ultra Light clay before I painted it with acrylic paing. I glued a tiny mirror to the top inside half of the box. For the bottom, I took a bitmap graphic piece that I originally created as a parody of those motivational posters. (The dog in the photograph is an Australian Shepard named Jay-Jay, who lives in Phoenix with my husband's step-father.) I glued the graphic to the inside bottom of the box before I covered it with two layers of Modge Podge. Then I poured just enough resin to cover the bottom.

red-sweetpotato powder, plus the white of an egg becomes blue (donno why, but its a well-known chemical effect) so it tastes sweet potato.
Demoing clamshell boxes. I made this very hearty box for my Book Typography book. It's a heavy buckram cloth, and I cut out the type for the title in some leftover Moriki. I coated the whole thing with a layer of methyl cellulose to seal it a wee bit (at least the edges of the letters) and to blend/hide any glue spots that may have come through. I'm thrilled with how it came out.

The box was originally a tiny shoe-shaped paper mache box that can be frequently found in arts and crafts stores like Michaels or A.C. Moore’s. I covered the box with polymer clay and painted the inside with yellow glitter acrylic paint.
Onboard HMS Belfast
HMS Belfast is the ninth of ten Town-class cruisers; begun at the end of 1936, Belfast was launched March 1938 (on St Patrick's Day. After striking a mine in November 1939, Belfast spent two years undergoing repairs and improvements, finally returning to service in November 1942. Throughout 1943, Belfast was involved in escorting Arctic convoys to the USSR; in December 1943 Belfast was involved in the Battle of North Cape, during which it assisted with the sinking of the German warship Scharnhorst. In June 1944, Belfast took part in Operation Overlord and the Normandy landings; the following year Belfast was redeployed to the British Pacific Fleet, remaining in the Far East until 1947 when it returned to Portsmouth and underwent a refit. At the end of 1948 Belfast was based at Hong Kong and became the flagship of the 5th Cruiser Squadron, and returned to combat during the Korean War between 1950-52. Upgraded and modernised between 1956-59, Belfast moved into reserve in 1963, then marked for disposal in 1971, only saved with the formation of a private HMS Belfast Trust that took possession in July of that year. Initially an independent museum, Belfast became a branch of the Imperial War Museum in 1978.

Photographed in 1975. Exact location isn't known for sure (the corrugated iron hoadings in the background are a bit of a mystery), but its possibly the stone masons on Box Hill again (or certainly one of the other stone masons nearby). At the time, all the stone masons around the local area were producing fine examples of stonework similar to this. Again Peter Woodgate is featured posing next to this piece of elaborate stonework.
