The gold prospector
Madagascar - Portrait from a series on gold miners in the Ambositra region. This young gold digger spends her time searching the bowels of the earth in search of precious flakes. A job that is carried out as a family. Her parents abandoned the family farm when she was very young to go into gold panning. A physically demanding activity, but much more remunerative than agriculture.

Did you ever see a laddie go this way and that? :
The child gradually grew disconcerted with his experiences at the 'nursery'. He was annoyed and often shocked by the world that unwrapped and what that he deciphered in the fourth year of his life.
Other than Sister Atlee, there's a teacher and a nursemaid in the nursery. Sister Atlee makes an occasional visit, and though she appears aloof and austere, the child liked her because he recognized that she is loving and harmless. So is Maggie, the nursemaid, who is probably a teenage orphan living in the convent. She wears floral frocks and has bobbed hair. Maggie serves the kids with the milk and cookies brought from their homes and cleaned the rooms. The teachers in the school have to be unmarried, and if they marry, they have to leave their job. In that case, the teacher in the nursery is a young lady.
The children are assigned 'homework', and every morning they are supposed to place the homework book, one on top of the other, on the teacher's table. Most kids didn't know the purpose of the ritual. As a routine, they often place the book on the table, even if they have not done their 'homework'. The teacher goes through each book, and the kids have to go and get their book when she calls their name. She called "Anuj", and the kid gleefully approached her. He was startled that unexpectedly she threw the book at his face and yelled, "Why you didn't do your homework?". The book came flying with its pages spread and hit him right at his face. It didn't scare him, but he walked back with a heavy heart as the brown paper covering of the book got unwrapped, and he remembered how attentively his dad encased it late at night. While he sat appalled and downhearted, he could hear her calling the names of other kids in the class. He soon saw her throw the book at the face of another boy and saw the poor child pee right where he stood.
The kid was puzzled why he is continually getting instilled with sad and obnoxious negative notions. He wondered what's funny if "Jack fell down and broke his head, and if Jill came tumbling after", and what's joyful about Humpty Dumpty's great fall. He felt sad for Little Red Riding Hood's poor grandma, who the wolf ate. He wondered why he's taught that Golliwog doesn't bathe or brush his teeth and is ugly; and portrayed as black, with big eyes, thick lips and curly hair.
The kid didn't understand why Vikraman while playing in the sandbox, hit the back of his right hand with the pail when he approached him with a smile. It hurt him badly, and he withdrew, perplexed by the unexplained motivation for such behaviour.
The kid didn't understand why and how could Deepti, who accosted him crying for help, romp away tittering with the same child who hurt her while the teacher was terrorizing her saviour for helping her. Sobbing, she approached him as her best friend and neighbour Pravin threw out her umbrella through the window. He consoled her and assured her that he would get it for her and instantly dashed back with the umbrella, flashing a victorious smile. As he gladly handed it over to her, the fuming teacher who appeared from nowhere asked, "You two went out?". Pointing at him, Deepti replied, "No, I didn't. It's him", and joyously left, giggling along with Pravin, holding his hand. While fiercely reprimanded by the teacher for venturing out, he could see her blissfully playing in the sandbox with her best friend.
The kid didn't understand why the cutely chubby Daffene was cruelly jeered at by most kids when she accidentally lost her bowel control and defecated in the class. While he sat beside her to console her, bewildered, he watched the dramatically cheerful commotion with the kids running around helter-skelter, covering their noses, bawling "Chakka thoori"(Jackfruit defecated). Chakka is Jackfruit, and plump people often get taunted with that term. Though poor Daffene put up a brave face, he knew she would burst out crying any moment.
He realized that traits are just inherent, and it has nothing to do with upbringing. He didn't believe that the parents of those kids taught them to behave that way. He felt that his world of ladybirds, butterflies, bugs and beetles is a far better place. He never felt hurt by an ant bite or a bee sting, but though he's known at his home and the whole neighbourhood as 'the child who never cries', all the incidents left scars in his heart.
Anyway, with all the bitter experiences, he slowly developed a dislike for the place. Finally, he told his mom that he no longer wish to go to that place. She informed dad, and they both came to his bed at night. Lifting the mosquito net, they both sat on the bed, and mindful of a child's apprehensions and worries, they asked," Is there anything that troubles you in the class?". The kid couldn't provide an immediate explanation, so he just repeated that he doesn't like the place. Desperate to solve the issue, they dissected and particularized the question. "Is someone troubling or misbehaving with you? ". The answer, "Yes", led to the questions, "Who?, How?". The kid couldn't find any immediate answer, so he lied, " The teacher called me a pig". "WHAT?! How dare she?!". Dad sprung up, fuming. He assured him he'll take care of the issue and asked the child not to worry before they tucked the net inside the mattress and left. The child remained sleepless for a while as the teacher never called him any such names, and he lied to his parents. His innocent intention was the simple expectation that his parents would stop sending him to such a nasty place.
The following day he was taken to the nursery, and Sister Atlee was ready to teach a new song. The girls held either side of the bottom edge of their half skirts and swayed their hips left and right to sing:
"Did you ever see a lassie, a lassie, a lassie? ,
Did you ever see a lassie Go this way and that?
Go this way and that way, go this way and that way,
Did you ever see a lassie Go this way and that? "
The boys held either side of the bottom edge of their shorts and, swaying the same way sang,
"Did you ever see a laddie, a laddie, a laddie? ,
Did you ever see a laddie Go this way and that?
Go this way and that way, go this way and that way,
Did you ever see a laddie Go this way and that? "
Abruptly, the swaying laddie felt a lightning bolt through his heart when he saw his dad at the door with a group of nuns and the teacher. After talking to him, the teacher came running towards the kids with an alarmed face. He wished he could go this way or that way as the teacher took him to his dad. On the verge of tears, she asked, "Anuj, did I call you a pig?". The kid replied, " Er, ahem, well ...No". "My child won't lie. Maybe someone else", said his dad. "Then, who? Is it Maggie?" asked the teacher. The kid looked around, and he didn't find Maggie anywhere nearby. His head bent downwards, he nodded and thought the issue is solved, and the matter would be closed. Oh no! There comes Maggie! Another face on the verge of tears, the same question and a lengthy " Yo, um, uh, er, ahem, well..No" as the answer. Thankfully, his dad thought of leaving it there, and he left after advising the teacher to be more careful with kids.
Though the kid regretted having lied, he was glad that the teacher became more amicable and mature than the kids after that incident.
Along with 'education' and experiences, though all kids slowly get acclimatized and move along with the flow, some kids merely grow up, some kids learn and remain immature, some kids mature but never learn, and the story goes on.

DOZ Marathon - An event that is a combination of a sports event and an action promoting a healthy and active lifestyle as well as modern charity. Runners can take part in a marathon run (42 km 195 m) and a 5 km run. In 2018, the runners ran a half-marathon for the first time. DOZ I Care for My Health Foundation has been a social partner of the DOZ Marathon in Łódź from the very beginning, creating and sponsoring charity activities. The action proves that you can also help by using the commitment, passion and energy of people, that you can invite your friends, family and friends to run - all in order to help others.
Participants treat the participation in the event as a personal challenge, but also more and more often as a desire to draw attention to the need to help. That is why we cooperate with other organizations to act and help together - in accordance with our slogan: "Together we can do more!". Competitors can dedicate their run to a public benefit organization or a specific person of their choice. For this purpose, they set up or support other fundraisers on the siepomaga.pl website. Also, the foundation team takes part in the run every year and its volunteers set up charity collections for our charges.
The partners of DOZ Marathon were e.g. Brain Stroke Foundation, SOS Children's Villages, Iskierka Foundation, Dom w Łodzi Foundation, Society of St. Brata Albert, the Association for People with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases "J-elita", the "Liver" Association, the "Wspólna Droga" Foundation, and the "We Empower Children" Foundation.
Luxury feeling 😊
Enjoying a beautiful morning with my best friend ever and knowing that we can eat and have a good stressfree meal is so important.
I find being aware of how our bodies work extremely interesting.
"If you think about it, we’ve always intuitively known that our brain and our gut were somehow connected – you only have to think about the butterflies you experience when you’re nervous or excited or the sudden dash to the bathroom that you might need to make before a big exam or a performance you’re feeling anxious about. Not to mention the common phrase “go with your gut” when it comes to decision-making. But are gut feelings actually real?
Well, science tells us that our brain, our gut, and our gut microbiome (the community of gut bugs living in our intestine) communicate with each other via the ‘microbiota-gut-brain axis’. This connection allows bi-directional communication, which means your gut talks to your brain and your brain talks to your gut. This all happens through their own biochemical language – messages sent via hormones, nerves and other signalling molecules. Doesn’t it just blow your mind how amazing our bodies are?
Considering this strong connection between our gut and our brain, it’s no wonder we literally feel some of our emotions in our gut, and it explains why those with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) may notice that their symptoms worsen when they’re stressed.
Yet, many of us have become disconnected from the impact that stress and our emotions can have on our physical gut symptoms. When we experience these symptoms, we tend to consider what we are eating but not necessarily how we are eating – and both are important. In fact, our emotional state can radically impact on how we digest our food. For example, eating while we’re upset or rushing around can potentially lead to indigestion and/or bloating, as digestive processes are not prioritised when the body is churning out stress hormones.
On the other hand, it’s difficult to feel happy and content when we’re experiencing digestive problems and challenges with our gut health. Around 90% of the serotonin in our body (the substance that acts as a neurotransmitter in our brain to help us feel happy, calm and content) is made in the gut, which means that if gut health is compromised, serotonin production may also potentially be altered.
The good news is, the power to change our gut health is entirely in our hands. Our gut microbiome (the ecosystem of bacteria in our gut) changes according to what we eat. It really is quite remarkable that the bacteria in our gut can change within a few days as a result of our food choices. What we eat is that powerful!
Our gut bugs love lots of plant foods. Some of the fibres naturally present in plants act as food for our gut bacteria and when the bacteria ferment the fibre, they produce short-chain fatty acids and these nourish the cells that line our gut. However, it is important to remember that the foods that are nourishing for one person may not be nourishing for another. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve met who have continued to eat certain foods they have been told are “healthy”, despite their body sending them clear messages (often in the form of gut symptoms!) that these foods aren’t right for them.
When we begin to pay more attention to how we feel after we eat, we can learn how to identify our body’s messages and improve our instincts around what’s right for us and what’s not. This includes what we eat and how to take better care of ourselves, but also extends beyond that to having the clarity of mind to make important decisions and the ability to get through our daily tasks without feeling overwhelmed.
So, begin to pay more attention to how you’re left feeling after each meal. It can help to jot down what you’re eating and any symptoms you experience for a couple of weeks to help you identify any common denominators that might better serve to be avoided for a trial period of time*.
* Long-term exclusions are best guided and supported by an experienced nutrition professional to ensure how you eat each day is nutritionally complete."

The State of Nevada has more and better to offer than hyper Las Vegas. About one hour northeast of it is the Valley of Fire State Park. This is the last most west outpost of sand stone country which is so characteristic for the Colorado Plateau. However, it is not a repetition of what you see in Utah or Arizona. The area is very unique and worth a visit!
One of its many uniqueness are wind and water eroded caves. These can be small and in some cases a little bit larger. An exploration is worth it. I entered this one and came out of it with two things: an intimate impression of Earth’s bowel and with back pain as I had to make myself small and contort my body to get into position for this shot.
Interested in a photo tour through the American Southwest, Brazil, Bolivia, Namibia or Tuscany? I can help you with it and make you come back with unique shots.

Snowy in the afternoon. Yesterday during feeding, our regular visitor, Snowy the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo dropped by. As usual he got his own special bowel of seeds and was happy to stand and eat while Jenny held the bowel beside him. Our daughter snapped this shot on her iphone.
Bei Bei has cabin fever since he has been restricted to the indoors since his bowel surgery 5 weeks ago. He's on the road to recovery and should be able to go outdoors and climb his trees soon.

From Masako~ (fake_plastic_earth)
professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression 'going bananas' is from the effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:
This is interesting.
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking.. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal..
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels.. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack..
Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A banana a day keeps the doctor away!'
I imagine to tell him, while I am igniting me a cigarette and as an anchor I hold it among the lips, that has to die. - Die carcass! What your bowel can decay inside of you, and that your filthy, rough and rotten language can make you suffocate. In the briefest possible time! -
He knows him what I intend, very well.
Because I could now enjoy the moments of intimacy in another way...

I really and truly didn't mean to hibernate this long but my wretched illness decided to accelerate at a galloping pace and as usual I shut down when the going gets tough.
Yesterday, I learnt that a very good friend of mine has been diagnosed with Ovarian and Bowel Cancer and for the millionth time, made me realise that our time is far too short for me to be burying my head in the sand.
Back in February, Shane surprised me with a four day trip to Killarney, County Kerry in the Republic of Ireland to celebrate our fourth Wedding Anniversary.
We stayed at the Lakeside Hotel which was fab with a capital F with easy access to the Ring of Kerry, a road which circles round the whole County.
I believe this is called Black Rocky Lake in the Killarney National Park and one of the benefits of sightseeing in February, is that we had this place all to ourselves.
One of those places that I felt an instant connection with. The water was incredibly still and absolutely crystal clear, the scenery was just gorgeous and to top it off there was still a smattering of snow on the mountain tops.
Shane literally had to drag me away from here as I was positive that a deer was about to make an appearance.
Along with Squirrels, deers are another one of my nemesis's!!
I am going to make a concerted effort to post and keep in touch with my flickr family. I am slow though as I can only take a limited time at the computer.
Good to be back!

Pouteria sapota
Große Sapote
Сапота
The mamey sapote, is a species of tree native to Mexico and
Central America. Its fruit is eaten in many Latin American countries.
Mamey sapote is a large and highly ornamental evergreen tree that can reach a height up to 45 meters. In Florida, the fruit is harvested from May to July with some cultivars available all year. The fruit, technically a berry, is about 10 to 25 cm (4 to 10 in) long and has flesh ranging in color from pink to orange to red. The fruit contains a single, hard, glossy, elliptical seed at its center. Ripe mamey is creamy and delicious, with a texture similar to avocado. It is sweet, like a creamier version of a baked sweet potato. The fruit is eaten raw or made into milkshakes, smoothies, ice cream and fruit bars.
If you buy firm mamey, just let it sit unrefrigerated until it softens. Firm, raw mamey is not edible. It’s hard to cut, semi-starchy, and bitter. Pick a mamey that still has a nub of stem where it was taken from the tree. If the crown of stem is missing, the fruit can dry out, and may spoil prematurely.
Unlike in most leafy vegetables, mamey fruit fiber composes soluble fibers which help in smoother bowel movements and work to protect colon mucosa from bacteria and cancer-causing toxins.
Its pulp carries several polyphenolic antioxidant compounds like tannin. the anti-inflammatory actions of tannins found helpful in the treatment of reflux esophagitis (GER), erosive gastritis, enteritis, and irritating bowel disorders.
Water is your body's principal chemical component, making up, on average, 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.
Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.
Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water. If you drink enough fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and produce 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or slightly yellow urine a day, your fluid intake is probably adequate.
You may need to modify your total fluid intake depending on how active you are, the climate you live in, your health status, and if you're pregnant or breast-feeding.
Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek. I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments however, awards and invites aren't necessary.

My cousin and I are very close. She has always been there in my life as she is just 6 months older than I. Her dad was my dad's brother and her mom was my mom's niece so we always joke about if we are first or second cousins depending on whose funeral or wedding we attend.
She was recently (within the last two months) diagnosed with colon cancer. She went through a major 5 hour laparoscopic surgical procedure. yesterday to remove part of her bowel.
Her husband texted me when they took her into recovery to let me know it was over. She did text me when she was, as she put it, "groggy and lucid" saying she was awake (sort of) and then this morning to tell me that she was very sore, spent a night vomiting but she was still alive.
I am waiting and hoping to hear if the prognosis for her will be good.
I hope you know that I appreciate your comments and visits. I may not get back to you quickly but I will try my best.

My son has retitled this Snowy Bowel.
Here's a strange story for you in the making of this photo.
We were driving along this dirt road in the Alabama Hills this dark night in June.
About 1km from our destination we discovered that the road was blocked by some 'Caution' tape, so we stopped the truck.
That's when a saw a headlamp about 50 meters away in the dark.
I rolled my window down, thinking this was some kind of official business only to hear ''Can you give me a jump? My battery is dead''.
I asked if he was responsible for blocking the road and if so - why?
By this time, the source of the voice had staggered from a nearby camp site and exclaimed that he couldn't walk fast enough to reach the road in time - should someone by driving by. Apparently he had a bad leg.
Internally, my alarm bells were ringing in the form of dueling banjos while outwardly I agreed to help.
We drove down to the camp site and helped the guy jump his car which worked first time. We then said our goodbyes and drove off feeling a bit...... sketchy about the whole encounter.
So, off we drove to our shooting destination (pictured above) parked on a turnout and hiked over to our spot. You can see the guys camp fire in the distance and the dirt road we used.
Within a few minutes, a vehicle with a search light drove along the main dirt road, sweeping the area with the search light, obviously looking for something.
The search light found us and the vehicle stopped. It then turned around and left the main road to go towards our parked truck.
At this point, we're thinking either it's the park ranger searching for someones lost dog or we're about to star in a Quentin Tarantinoesque nightmare.
We switched off our headlamps and prepared for the worst, fully expecting to see or hear trouble coming our way any second.
After a couple of tense, bowel twitching minutes, we saw the vehicle drive off into the hills, never to be seen again.
Quite what was going on, I guess we'll never know, but it was a weird night that I'll never forget.
I'm just glad we got through it with our underwear intact and some good photos to show for the drama.

Bei Bei's doing his job! He's almost 6 weeks post-op after bowel surgery. Before he can go outdoors to play & climb trees, he must be able to digest all the parts of bamboo. He's eating all that the keepers give him.
One bowel of microwaved blue-berries and unsweetened apple sauce with ground almonds and unsweetened coconut, one slice of prairie-bran bread spreaded with a mixture of cocoa powder, cinnamon, pure sesame paste (tahina) and honey, and a cup of tea prepared from organic rosemary leaves. This breakfast is not for every morning. The protein content in sesame paste is high, better two or three mornings per a week.
Week Thirty-Eight
If she is the "average baby," she weights 6.8 pounds (3083gm)and is 19.6 inches (49.8cm) long.
Have you noticed she hiccups a lot? Because there is no air around her, those breathing exercises cause amniotic fluid to get into her windpipe. The result? Hiccups!
Your child's intestines are accumulating lots of meconium. Meconium takes on the role of being your baby's first bowel movement -- removing the waste that has accumulated.
She may have a full head of hair now -- an inch or more long! Don't be surprised if it's an unexpected color. Some blond couples have dark haired babies; some dark haired couples have red-haired babies; some couples have babies with only peach fuzz! It may just persuade you to take a closer look at your family tree!
Circumference of head and abdomen are about the same size for your baby. No wonder it's so hard to get a t-shirt over a newborn's head!
My journey with cancer.....I have some good news I wanted to share with everyone.
I went for my three week check up yesterday (following surgery).
When Dr. Jutzi sat down she said, "I think you're done" and I said "Done, good or Done bad?" She told me that she believes my cancer is gone. No need for more chemo or hormones.
The tumour that was entangled and attached to my large bowel was endometriosis, which means that my cancer had not metastasized. She said it was surprising in someone that has gone through menopause, but it must have broken off and attached to my bowels, maybe quite some time ago. The other tumour that she removed, ended up being benign. The tumours that were in my omentum seem to have disappeared. Dr. Jutzi said she wishes she had done the surgery a year ago before I went through chemo.
Unfortunately scans and tests can only tell so much of the story, and that is what they rely on.
I'm cautiously optimistic at the moment, because for five years I have been told that they were just trying to extend my life in the most healthy way. I'm a little scared to get really happy yet (although I am happy). I have to go for tests every 3 months, and watch my body for signs.
I have another 2 weeks to go before I can lift and really exercise and get back out there with my camera (although after my appt yesterday we drove around looking for owls - found 1 barred and 7 snowy owls). It was nice to get out.
I wanted to thank everyone again for all of your prayers and support, I couldn't have survived the last five years without my family and friends.

We don't get a lot of trick-or-treaters at our house. Not a lot of kids in our neighborhood. But we always lay in a supply just in case we get hit by a rush. Frankly, I'd prefer they'd just stay away. More for me.
Happy Halloween!

Our first wolf dog Alaska, a rescue, who was totally devoted to me. I adored him. He died when he was 5 years old, of a twisted bowel which happened in minutes before our eyes without warning. I will miss him forever.
Why Are People Embarrassed By Flatulence?
Flatulence, or passing gas, is a natural bodily function that occurs when the digestive system breaks down food and produces gas as a byproduct. Despite being a natural process, many people feel embarrassed or ashamed when they pass gas in public or around others.
One reason people might feel embarrassed by flatulence is due to social norms and expectations around bodily functions. In many cultures, passing gas is considered impolite and rude, and people may view it as a sign of poor manners or lack of self-control. Additionally, flatulence can be associated with unpleasant smells, which can further add to feelings of embarrassment and discomfort.
Another reason people may feel embarrassed by flatulence is due to personal beliefs or insecurities. Some people may feel ashamed of their bodily functions or believe that passing gas is dirty or inappropriate. Others may be worried about being judged or ridiculed by others for their flatulence.
In some cases, medical conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or lactose intolerance can cause excessive flatulence, which can be embarrassing and disruptive to daily life. In these situations, seeking medical advice and treatment may help alleviate the symptoms and reduce feelings of embarrassment.
Overall, the embarrassment surrounding flatulence is often a result of social and cultural norms, personal beliefs and insecurities, and the potential for unpleasant smells. However, it's important to remember that passing gas is a normal and natural bodily function, and there's no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed about it.
At the end of the day to most of us it's just funny.
( I am fairly certain it was him).
Giant Panda Bei Bei (16 months) was finally set "free" by his veterinarians, nutritionists, and SNZ staff this morning to once again explore the great outdoors. Bei had emergency bowel surgery the day after Thanksgiving (11.25.16) and needed to remain inside the den to recover. Thank you to all involved in Bei's recovery. You are the best!

If you like growing your own lettuce this variety of "Bronze Arrow" is a winner. It's a very fast grower. This year because of the warm wet weather it exploded. We have tons of it, so I made Lettuce Soup to use some of it up. I have never had Lettuce Soup before and wasn't sure what it would taste like. I'm very pleased with it. Lettuce is pretty blah by itself and depending on what you put into the soup it can make a world of difference. I really like this soup. I altered the original recipe to suit my own tastes and jazz it up, I general do.
It's been years since I had a Chaffle. These are so easy to make, they have cheese and eggs, that's it. I used really good Organic Pasture raised eggs and Vegan Mozzarella Cheese. Since this was the first time using this recipe I made it exactly as the recipe said but I will cut back on the amount of batter I put in the iron next time. Live and learn! They were delicious. I put some Vegan Butter and NY Maple Syrup on them. It was a very tasty breakfast.
These photos were taken (by Ron) before Gracie became sick.
About the only good news is that Gracie's eye is a little better. However, in other ways, she is worse today. She seems a little feverish, she is sluggish, and she has not had a bowel movement for more than three days. She has not used the litter box at all since early this morning. We have called the veterinary clinic and arranged for an earlier appointment tomorrow.
This is my buddy. His name is Monroe, He's a Maine Coon and one of the best looking cats you'd ever meet. He's 11 years old. Unfortunately he has a disease, it's called IBD (inflamartory bowel disease), it's incurable, and it sucks. We've tried everything to stabilize the disease and unfortunately we're not doing so great.
At this point we're working on giving him a decent quality of life. it kills me.
Thanks all for the nice thoughts.
Update: After his oral steriods started losing their effectiveness, we switched to injectable steriods for him... he did very well for the first several weeks. Unfortunately that didn't last, On May 6th after about 2 years of dealing and mostly managing his illness, we put him to sleep. We miss him very much. He was a great boy and didn't derserve the hand he was dealt.
