And you open the door and you step inside
We're inside our hearts
Now imagine your pain as a white ball of healing light
That's right, your pain
The pain itself is a white ball of healing light
I don't think so
This is your life, good to the last drop
Doesn't get any better than this
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time
This isn't a seminar, this isn't a weekend retreat
Where you are now you can't even imagine what the bottom will be like; only after disaster can we be resurrected
It's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything.
Nothing is static, everything is evolving, everything is falling apart
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
Doesn't get any better than this
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
And it's and it's ending one minute at a time
You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake
You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else
We are all part of the same compost heap
We are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world
You are not your bank account
You are not the clothes you wear
You are not the contents of your wallet
You are not your bowel cancer
You are not your grande latte
You are not the car you drive
You are not your fucking khakis
You have to give up
You have to give up
You have to realize that someday you will die
Until you know that, you are useless
I say let me never be complete
I say may I never be content
I say deliver me from Swedish furniture
I say deliver me from clever art
I say deliver me from clear skin and perfect teeth
I say you have to give up
I say evolve and let the chips fall where they may
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
Doesn't get any better than this
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
And it's, and it's ending one minute at a time
You have to give up
You have to give up
I want you to hit me as hard as you can
I want you to hit me as hard as you can
I want you to hit me as hard as you can

Spike contracted IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) when he was 3 years old.
He suffered from vomiting, diarrhea, anemia and pankreatitis.
He was very ill and I thought I was going to lose him.
It`s been a tough road, but Spike is a fighther.
He is now 4 years old and well on medication.
No one knows how long he will live.
I am thankful for every day, because I love him so much.
He is a good boy.
Rose from the vines by Mother's front porch. Always beautiful pink blooms every year.
Captured this photo today. Sun was a little bright - had to tone the color in editing. My cell phone camera does pink and red better when the sky is cloudy.
Mother is back home after threes weeks in the hospital with bowel obstruction but still having digestion issues. Please keep her in your prayers. We will have to sell her house soon for long term nursing care. <3

Green-veined White - Pieris napi on Great willow herb.
Great willow herb is a large herb that flourishes on damp ground, such as wet grasslands, ditches, riversides and woodland clearings. Deep pink flowers appear on the top of hairy stems from July to August and its fluffy seeds are dispersed by the wind.
What is willow herb good for?
Medicinal use of Willow Herb:
The herb is antispasmodic, astringent, demulcent, emollient, hypnotic, laxative and tonic. It is used in the treatment of diarrhoea, mucous colitis and irritable bowel syndrome. The plant is used in Germany and Austria to treat prostate problems.
Can you eat great willow herb?
It's not the best food, but being so abundant can be very useful. In the Springtime the young shoots and leaves can be eaten raw, and as they get older need to be steamed or boiled for 10 minutes. Treat the shoots like asparagus. The root can be cooked as a vegetable, added to stews.

This tulip in tribute to a friend who died last night, his heart did not hold after surgery for bowel cancer yesterday.
Carlos was 54 years old ....
I am very sad and angry at this cursed disease that kills people every day.
Take good care of yourself.
Taken in the morning at Fintry Provincial Park. Apparently these blossoms come out first thing in the morning and close again by noon. Seems a bit weird. They're pretty though and have all sorts of medicinal properties from pain relief to bowel cleans and much, much more.

Here we are, looking down the path which I'll pretend leads us to the future. We are praying it's much better than it's been for a long time, as my husband, Trev, has a major operation to remove a cancerous growth in his bowel tomorrow. It is a tricky operation and he'll need lots of care but it's a new beginning !
So we're ignoring the dark clouds overhead. They went away and soon it was sunshine again !
Keep safe everyone, look after yourselves and each other.
My time on Flickr will be very limited, as you can imagine. Please forgive my frequent absenses, you will know the reason why now.
I hope you like my picture, edited in Topaz Studio and framed and signed in PicMonkey.

Have you heard this phrase: "Life is just a bowel of cherries"?
Ah.....lychee is one of my favorite tropical fruits, so delicious with a special aroma. If you see some, try it, you won't be disappointed. :-)

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anchusa flowers are also 'tongue-caressing' because of their special taste: wonderfully cool and slightly bitter. The medicinal effect of Ox tongue has been known for centuries: Externally in compresses, for its cooling and analgesic properties and internally as an effective means to promote bowel movements.
Tip :
You can freeze these flowers in 'ice cubes' in the summer, in order to have a stock to be able to serve them as 'dancing' flowers in the winter, too, if these flowers are unfortunately unavailable. filled drinking glasses.
The bottles, carried in a physician's grippe or field hospital pharmacy are real. Except for the whisky, all the other medicines are fake. All are edible and are labeled with period style labels. Quinine salts and pills were used to treat fevers. Unbeknownst to the Doctors, many fevers were caused by Malaria. The malaria parasite responds to quinine, thus controlling many fevers of the day. Morphine powder could be measured into syrups or placed in alcohol to create a morphine elixir to treat pain. Calomel is a medication that was historically used to treat various medical conditions. It is a white, crystalline powder that is chemically known as mercurous chloride (Hg2Cl2). Calomel was widely used in the 18th and 19th centuries as a treatment for: Syphilis, Yellow fever, Constipation, Diarrhea, and Liver disease. Calomel works by releasing mercury ions into the body, which can have a purgative (laxative) effect and stimulate the immune system.
Calomel is a toxic substance that can cause serious health problems, including: kidney damage, liver damage, mercury poisoning, and death. During the Civil War, the most prominent lead salt used was lead(II) acetate, commonly known as "sugar of lead," for medicinal purposes. Civil War surgeons used lead(II) acetate, or sugar of lead, both internally and externally, despite its toxic effects. Its applications included:
Astringent: Applied externally to constrict body tissues and reduce bleeding.
Sedative: Administered internally to calm a patient.
Dysentery treatment: Combined with other compounds like opium to treat bowel disorders. This treatment often worsened the effects of dehydration caused by dysentery and was highly toxic. Diarrhea (from all causes), its treatment and its dehydration effects probably resulted in more soldiers' deaths than battle wounds. A lot has changed since that time...fortunately.
This pharmacy is only a part of my Civil War surgeon's kit. I have period style surgical instruments, an ether mask, stethoscope, ether cans (empty), and bullet probes, to name a few.

Bowel Screening Is So Important
Finally told I can could come home yesterday after major surgery and the hard part of my cancer treatment completed.
Mine was caught early and gives me a great chance of recovery.
However if I had ignored my bi annual screening things could have been a lot worse.
Bowel cancer is a silent killer and by the time it reveals itself it can be too late. Please make sure none of you place yourselves in that position.
I feel really passionately about this and I’ll be honest this post is way beyond my normal comfort zone.
However I truly believe it’s an important message to put out there.
Finally a massive thanks to all my family and friends for their valuable support
❤️❤️❤️❤️
My latest otter who I have named
scar as he has an open wound on his neck and an older injury on his flank.
Although the neck wound looks nasty it doesn't seem to be impeding him unduly. While we watched him he caught numerous fish so he certainly is capable of hunting.

Located opposite the falls, the mineral spring emanates from several small fissures in the rock wall above the large boulder. The upper surface of the boulder has been carved into a bowel to collect the "medicinal quality" water. A health spa and resort were also located here from the early 1800's until destroyed by a fire around 1930.
This time last week we were picking up Milu from the vet's. She was very low and hadn't eaten much in days or been to the toilet. After giving her the appropriate meds to clear her bowel we brought her home and what a turn around. She is, at this very moment meowing loudly for her food. Instead of tablets we are now giving her syrup for her thyroid issues which has to be done with complete stealth as if you sees the syringe she is off. We take her back in a couple of weeks to see how the new regime is working and her meds will be adjusted accordingly
May 12 is ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia International Awareness Day, a day to bring attention to how ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia affects those suffering from the illness.
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. Often, people with ME/CFS may not be able to do their usual activities. People with ME/CFS have severe fatigue and sleep problems. ME/CFS may get worse after people with the illness try to do as much as they want or need to do. This symptom is known as post-exertional malaise (PEM). Other symptoms can include problems with thinking and concentrating, pain, and dizziness.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a medical condition characterised by chronic widespread pain and a heightened pain response to pressure. Other symptoms include tiredness to a degree that normal activities are affected, sleep problems and troubles with memory. Some people also report restless legs syndrome, bowel or bladder problems, numbness and tingling and sensitivity to noise, lights or temperature. Fibromyalgia is frequently associated with depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder. Other types of chronic pain are also frequently present.

I was going to upload this last week but felt my reasons for doing so could be wrong. This week I wish I had uploaded it because the memories stirred are still relevant imho.
This is a factory a five minute walk from my present home and was a five minute walk from where I lived as a child too.
In 1966 the year I became 15 years old my dad died aged 49 years at home of bowel cancer August bank holiday weekend on the Saturday. I had left school the previous day on the Friday with no qualifications because it was simply a secondary modern school for girls. I started work at this factory the Tuesday following Bank Holiday Monday and the Friday after I had left school.
I was allowed a day off work for my dad’s funeral the following Thursday though.
I started a 40 hour shift and was paid £4 10 shillings and my mam had the £4 and I the ten shillings and had buy all my own clothes by saving up for them. About 2-3 weeks at most at this factory the manager of my floor came to reach over to show me how to hold the shirt I was putting in labels correctly. He had the nerve to reach inside my clothing and fondle my breast. I told him to f*ck off and keep his dirty hands to himself.
I got sacked on the spot.
No worries in those days and I was employed at another factory involving a short bus ride the following week….we weren’t so
‘ precious’ back then and made of pretty stern stuff possibly.
I still remember my wonderful dad who had taken me to see my cousin Barry who had a dark room and dad promised to buy me an SLR camera like Barry’s…I hope he knows I got a camera in my early twenties and although didn’t do well with film I did love and still do my hobby of photography. I adored my dad and he me - and only I was allowed to administer the poor pain killers he could get from the chemist till my mums heart broken plea to our Gp made him break confidentiality and came to help my dad out of the world within a fortnight ( he was no Harold Shipman) and was heartbroken himself at having turned down my mams pleas for him to come earlier to see my dad who was suffering untold agony and just taking over the counter stuff from Boots the chemist. He was terrified of hospitals and scared he had cancer.
Every August Bank Holiday I remember it all but he would have been so proud I made it even this far…..this is a tribute to my dad

Datura is a genus of highly poisonous vespertine-flowering plants in the Nightshade family. There are several species of Datura, but pictured here is Datura wrightii, colloquially known as Sacred Datura, native to the Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico.
Datura plants – both Datura wrightii, and other varieties – contain toxic quantities of tropane alkaloids like scopolamine and atropine. Substantial ingestion of Datura results in anticholinergic syndrome; function of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine is blocked, resulting in a series of symptoms ranging from psychosis to hyperthermia to temporary blindness. The symptoms of anticholinergic syndrome are described by the medical mnemonic “Blind as a bat, mad as a hatter, red as a beet, hot as a hare, dry as a bone, the bowel and bladder lose their tone, and the heart runs alone.” Ingestion of Datura can be lethal.
That doesn’t stop some people, often teenagers, from ingesting it though, because hey, psychoactive plant! But apparently it is the Worst. Drug. Ever. I once heard it described by a Youtuber as “The Psychedelic that Only Gives Bad Trips.” A foray into the Datura Trip Reports section of Erowid.org features Trip Report titles such as “24 Hours of Madness”, “Three Unpleasant Days,” “Imaginary Friends May Not Be Nice”, “Vague, Unreal, and Unpleasant,” “The Depths of Delirium Sucked”, “Complete Retrograde Amnesia”, “Loss of Coordination Entirely”, and “Oblivion in the Worst Possible Sense.”
Clearly ingesting Datura isn’t advisable. If you wish to unlock its mysteries, I would recommend sitting with it and asking it what it wants to tell you rather than consuming it. But if you want to get wild and crazy, maybe touch it and end up with a horrible case of contact dermatitis* like me. :)
*Note that it isn’t known to give contact dermatitis universally, only to sensitive individuals; I’m allergic to almost everything on God’s Green Earth, so it’s not surprising I had a reaction. That being said, apparently touching it with an open sore can be No Bueno.
Anyone who has visited the Farne Islands will know how relentless Arctic Terns can be while defending their nests. But it's not just humans they attack. I have seen them attack Arctic Foxes, Polar Bears and other birds, such as this Glaucous Gull. When I was photographing a Grey Phalarope I was close to nesting Arctic Terns. I put my hood up and pulled the sleeves over my hands so the only thing exposed was my shutter finger. One Arctic Tern repeatedly pecked my finger until it bled from several puncture wounds. This Glaucous Gull had its eye on Barnacle goslings, but happened to be too close to the Arctic Tern's nest, so the tern repeatedly dived at the gull until it was forced to move. And not content with beak attacks, they also launch bowel attacks. It took me ages to clean the smelly guano off my coat after my phalarope photography. But you have to suffer for your art and I'm glad I endured it: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/53058967198/in/dateposted/
Last week I went for a walk around Mont Park for the first time. Mont Park Asylum was a psychiatric hospital and opened in 1912 and closed in the 1990s. It was also known as hospital for the insane. The grounds are now being developed into student accommodation and up market residential homes. They have kept most of the old buildings.
I only found out after my mother’s death that her mother was committed here for Paraphrenia, a type of Schizophrenia. My mother would have been 10 years old when her mother was taken away.
Her name was Elsie May.
I applied for her records and they are difficult reading. She spent several months in the Asylum in 1935 after attempting suicide by drowning, then again in 1937. She was recommitted around 1945 where she remained until her death from a twisted bowel in 1954 at the young age of 51.
I walked around, taking in these old buildings, wondering what her life was like here. From the old records, I don't imagine it was good. It seems she was only visited once in the time she was here with one letter asking for permission to take her for a walk around the grounds.
Did her unstable footsteps echo along the same well worn path where I was walking?
The grounds are adorned with beautiful old Elms and Oak trees. They would have been here when she was a patient 80 years ago though not as large.
I walked up to one of the trees and ran my fingers over its rough bark. I took in the shelter under its large branches as the rain gently fell. I felt their warmth and comfort, I heard the tree whisper.
Did Elsie look at this same tree? Did she feel the bark to remind her that there was life outside of these brick walls? Did she feel its comfort as I did while I wept for a woman I never knew?
When we look at the night sky, we are really looking into the past; the light we see is already old. I felt like this looking at this tree. My gaze matching Elsie’s, connecting me to her through time and space, even though we are light years apart sharing a different moment in time.
Her grave remains unmarked so this is my epitaph to her, my grandmother Elsie May.
Chicory flowers on the lawn in my housing estate. Here are many of them now :)
Smile on Saturday - theme: "Flora in June" :)
Common chicory (Cichorium intybus), is a bushy perennial herbaceous plant with blue, lavender, or occasionally white flowers. It lives as a wild plant on roadsides in its native Europe, and in North America and Australia, where it has become naturalized. It is also grown as a forage crop for livestock. Various varieties are cultivated for salad leaves, chicons (blanched buds), or for roots (var. sativum), which are baked, ground, and used as a coffee substitute and additive. Chicory (especially the flower) was used as a treatment in Germany, and is recorded in many books as an ancient German treatment for everyday ailments. It is variously used as a tonic and as a treatment for gallstones, gastro-enteritis, sinus problems and cuts and bruises. (Howard M. 1987). Chicory contains inulin, which may help humans with weight loss, constipation, improving bowel function, and general health. In rats, it may increase calcium absorption and bone mineral density.

Kwiaty cykorii na osiedlowym trawniku. Całkiem sporo ich tu teraz kwitnie :)
Cykoria podróżnik (Cichorium intybus) – gatunek rośliny należący do rodziny astrowatych.

"Going the Distance" - Cake
He's going the distance
No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine
He's haunted by something he cannot define
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse
Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force
In his mind he's still driving, still making the grade
I thought I would drop by to wish you all a Happy New Year and let you know that I am still around, although most of the time resting. I became ill at the beginning of December and on 13th was taken by ambulance to hospital. I had a temperature of 38.9 and was very ill indeed. It turned out that I have two abscesses in my liver, caused by bacteria from the issues I already have from my bowel (for which I am awaiting surgery). I was put on a high dose course of intravenous antibiotics and was released from hospital on 21 December. I am now taking antibiotics three times a day and will continue these for six weeks. I also have to inject myself twice a day to thin my blood as they found a clot near to my liver. So life has been somewhat difficult over the past few weeks. If there is a silver lining to all this , my consultant has said he will be bringing my surgery forward, subject to Covid. I am in fairly good spirits and Phill is looking after me well. I will catch up with you all at some point, but my energy levels aren't what they were.
I wish you all only good things for 2022 xx

I'm leaving for Paris, a little trip till tuesday. I'll take a TON of pictures!! see ya people!
Raphael is doing very well. He appears to have made a full recovery. (Previous he had a blocked bowel, they thought it was possible lymphoma).
I don't really know what caused it. I do think some cat biscuits I bought online may be the culprit. I've thrown them out.
Raphael is playful, he runs around, he whines for attention, and when he can he sneaks up on the towel where they change the baby. Smells it all over and rubs his face on it. He's scared of the baby, except when the baby has cooked chicken in his hand.
I am relieved that the older vet knew what to do and realised the situation. She saved him.
Raphael finished his course of Prednisone 3 weeks ago, and I am satisfied he is fine. This older vet is the same vet looking after Josie.
I visited the Kitty Cat Cafe and Adoption Lounge in Peabody today, and felt like a kid in a candy store. The cats are all available for adoption, and enjoy pats and attention. This one is Lord Briar, who is very sweet and a good kitty model. He had just finished a popsicle made of dried chicken.
Here's his info from the cafe's website:
"Do you see a huge pair of eyes staring at you from behind the couch? A monster? No, it’s just Lord Briar, a beautiful 6 yr-old flame point siamese. This adorable boy was surrendered to the Odd Cat Sanctuary after coming from a tough home life. He started out shy and prefering to hide behind the couch, but has started getting braver and even climbed on a few laps. Lord Briar will accept head pats, brushing, and might even eat treats from your hand with a little encouragement. When you touch him, you’ll notice his indescribably soft fur! Lord Briar has serious Irritable Bowel Disorder which can be managed with the right dietary restrictions and vet care. "

The fabulous chaise longue that Joy sent us from Canada a year and a half ago, is showing signs of wear and tear from all the scratching the cats do so we decided to splash out on this regal looking bed. A company up in Scotland make them. This was Kaiser testing it out when we had just got it out of the box.
All four cats have tried it out and have given it their seal of approval. Three more photos in the comments below.
I had my follow up hospital appointment this morning and unfortunately, the news was not as good as I had hoped. My diverticular disease has become so bad that my bowel has 'fused' to my bladder which means I have to have most of my bowel taken out. This will mean major surgery. The surgeon said that he couldn't see it happening for a year yet because of the backlog due to Covid so unless I am taken into hospital as an emergency (which has happened in the past) I will have to wait. It was quite a shock but there it is. Onwards and upwards!
Wishing you all a safe and healthy weekend

Or one ration (new tab) of rashers* - You have been warned (ツ)
This picture has notes. If they are not where they should be when you open the page, going to lightbox and back again should do the trick. It's simply a Flickr quirk. No comment!
Best viewed in lightbox and on full screen (F11), of course!
The gear! (new tab) - Shh!!! Mum's the word!
Well, I hope you like ants because I've got rather a lot of antpix! You see, a whole colony of these things decided to spend their summer holidays with us in what the French call a “colonie de vacances” - a sort of holiday camp for ants. (ツ)
These guys hardly ever stop moving and even when they do stop, they go on twitching! ;-) The idea of an English breakfast (bacon and egg) was to try and slow them down a bit, which it did a bit and they loved it!
The bacon - a very tiny, wafer-thin slice - was wrapped around one of the tension wires of a 2mm, chain-link, wire fence similar to this one (new tab) - which they had chosen for their daily promenades!
As for the egg, I dropped it - not the egg, of course, but the idea. Far too messy! (ツ)

There’s more to come. Just scroll down the page a bit! (ツ)
I have been back at home for a couple of days now after my surgery. Firstly, the brilliant news is that they managed to take away the diseased bowel without the need of a stoma. My stomach looks like it has a zip with around 30 staples in it. It all went well and I am looking forward to a full recovery. I will catch up with you slowly as I still do not have that much energy. But as it is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, I felt it a good opportunity to drop by
And you open the door and you step inside

This is your life, good to the last drop
Doesn't get any better than this
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time
This isn't a seminar, this isn't a weekend retreat
Where you are now you can't even imagine what the bottom will be like
Only after disaster can we be resurrected
It's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything
Nothing is static, everything is evolving, everything is falling apart
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
Doesn't get any better than this
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
And it and it's ending one-minute at a time
You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake
You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else
We are all part of the same compost heap
We are the all singing, all dancing, crap of the world
You are not your bank account
You are not the clothes you wear
You are not the contents of your wallet
You are not your bowel cancer
You are not your grande latte
You are not the car you drive
You are not your fucking khaki's
You have to give up, you have to give up
You have to realize that someday you will die
Until you know that, you are useless.
You may have noticed that I have been missing for the last few weeks but it is hard to be creative when your big buddy is sick. Just before Christmas Milo got sick and then it was nothing but down hill and nothing the vet could do would help.
Since that time he lost almost five kilo's because he couldn't eat and would not drink. He had sever diarrhea and was losing all his nutrients out his back side. He has been to the vets twice for 24 hour drips because he was dehydrated. Yesterday he had a biopsy done on his gut and we are awaiting a report.
Anyway, during that surgery the vet gave him vitamin shots and shots to clear up a severally enflamed bowel. Today, he seems to be on the road to recovery with his appetite back and drinking on his own. We are very grateful to the vet and to the Good Lord that we did not lost Mr Milo. This could have been a vastly different post.
The Lloyds building, in the city of London.
Built in 1986, on the former sites of the East India Company building, the Lloyds building is a rare example of the Bowelism school of architecture, where lifts and ducts are moved to the exerior of the building to maximise internal shape. It was Grade I listed in 2011, making it the youngest building to ever achieve this status.

Milu was sitting on the arm of my chair and I couldn't resist her sweet fuzzy face. Her health is up and down these days. Her thyroid meds were increased a couple of weeks ago and the vet had suggested we feed her oily tuna frequently to keep her bowel movements regular. On her bad days there is no way that you can get her to take her tablet as she ignores all food and just goes upstairs and sleeps on my bed all day. On the good days she is always downstairs on the back of the sofa or the arm of my chair and will beg for treats as well as her own food. At the moment there are more good days than bad ones. She only weighs 3 kilos. You can imagine how tiny she looks beside fat boy Kaiser who weighs in at a hefty 7 kilos. She is 16 years old so not too bad for her age.
It is still freezing over here with temperatures around minus 3 every night. Luckily we are heading for warmer weather next week
One of my earliest images ever made with a DSLR. Taken a long long time ago in August 2008. The original edit was even darker, and was finished in sepia tones. Here's a fresh edit of this old relic.

The wonder of a Banana
A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.
Read on:
Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!
This is interesting.
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fibre. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anaemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of haemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anaemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure, so much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fibre, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates
your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away
Well life has been a roller-coaster since i was last on Flickr, so i think an update is needed.
As i sit typing this update snuggled up to my manure stinking boys, Trev is in the local hospice receiving treatment to help relieve his pain. I'm not sure where we were up to with Trev's progress so i will start with his Radiotherapy treatment in December (2020).
His treatment finished just before Christmas but he never seemed to be well throughout it and after it. His post treatment scan and consultation took place around the 11th February, and we found out Trev's pancreatic cancer had spread to the peritoneum and the bowel. I'm sure you can imagine how we felt about the devastating news.
Trev's pain started to accelerate at a tremendous pace, and he struggled to talk, sleep and eat. He got admitted to our local hospice on Tuesday for pain relief treatment, which is working, but they fear the cancer is spreading faster than previously thought. His prognosis is not good, but myself and the boys are looking forward to him coming home, hopefully by the end of this week. x
Thank you always for your continued love and support and i ask if you can all keep praying xxx
Love Jus, Rupert, Razzle and Trev xxxx
