Many people have asked me about THIS SHOT and how I pulled it off..... there's no real secret to it:
I set up my little ghetto-studio (SB600 45 degrees front right and above the frame, white foam board reflectors on each side of the drop area) placed a sheet of glass from an old picture frame on the desk and created a pile of baby powder (yes.... baby powder, despite what my DEA neighbours may think) at my point of focus. Loaded up the brush with powder and dropped from a height of about 2 feet (shattering the piece of glass at some point during the shoot)...... from there, it's all timing. ;)
As I mentioned the first shot that I posted was a little soft, as it bounced backwards out of the focal area - these ones are all pretty sharp, but I still LOVE the trail the first shot made as it bounced away.
Thank you for your views and comments on my previous shot (explore front page at one point apparently - I only saw it as high as #11) - I am pretty proud of it and thrilled with the way these turned out..... my stitching on this could use a little work, but I think I've had enough photoshop for one day. ;)

This is pretty much all I see all day at my desk. For a few minutes on a sunny day, the light bounces around in such a pretty way... this day I had the presence of mind to grab the camera.

This street is pure magic for me....the way the light bounces off of the buildings and catches the color is just amazing. It is no secret that I have a small infatuation with this area...I really like it in the early morning hours, a little quiet and the sound of heels on cobblestone fills the air with a quiet mystery...

When the late afternoon light in downtown Toronto starts bouncing back and forth from one glass wall to the next you never know where it'll hit ...(depending on the time of year ;-) Seen from Yonge Street, north of Adelaide Street, looking west to the Bay Adelaide Centre's West Tower. Processed in PS.
Not sure what I like about this. Maybe that this is so her these days. Bouncing off the walls and refusing to look at the camera :)
Light painting on a backyard trampoline. The original plan was to take a 10 second(ish) exposure with me jumping on the trampoline with a light blade. Unfortunately, the result looked rather average. So instead I tried bouncing around with a Lightflute, and ended up with half-decent "not quite an orb" effect. The following night, I tried to add a few starburst and EL wire mist, but preferred this attempt.
Light source was a Convoy S2+ with pink cellophane, connected to a Denis Smith lightflute CH48 via LPB Universal Connector.

A still life experiment with my Fuji X-T2. I lit the scene with a single LED lamp to the right of the vase. The light was flagged from the room behind the vase with the intention of it rendering as pure black. Some of the light bounced off of a nearby wooden door camera-left and nicely filled the left side of the vase.

The truck appears to bounce to the left after impact, producing the intriguing horizontal splash. I'm not so sure now though, this may just be two stages in the development of the liquid splash.

www.diyphotography.net/creating-the-splash We used a photocell trigger with an interrupted laser beam and an adjustable delay unit, constructed by myself, and a ramp and skateboard (with interchangeable decks for ease of changing the glasses) precision-engineered by Mark (mkratty). Paul (Moose_Malloy) suggested the idea and supervised the lighting :-) It's great when a plan comes together!
Strobist info: three flash units, all at 1/32 power, aimed at a white background (bed sheet), fired by radio triggers connected to the photocell trigger. One central under the table, and one each at camera left and right slightly above the subject and snooted.

Just thew a random handful of smarties at a white plate and clicked away. This was the 4th shot that pretty much meets the challenge *nom*nom*nom* .... trust me, I'll save some for ya :P
