The Bone Caves are a series of natural caves set into a high limestone cliff called Creag nan Uamh (Crag of the Caves). The caves are named for the large numbers of animal bones found during excavations.
There are four main cave openings in the cliffs, formed before the last ice age by water dissolving limestone in cracks in the surrounding rock. Subsequent glacial action and erosion of the glen by water left the caves hundreds of feet above the valley floor.
There is no indication that the caves were ever used as human habitat, but two separate human burials have been discovered within the caves.
In total, over 1000 pieces of reindeer antler have been found in the Bone Caves, with dates ranging from 47,000 to 8,300 years ago.
One rare find was the skull of a Northern lynx, dated to 1,770 years ago. This is the only Northern lynx ever found in Scotland. Other intriguing remains include a possible polar bear, arctic fox, wolf, and brown bear.
Finds from the caves are kept at the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. (Above Information Off Google)

One day we went on a trip in a convoy of 4x4 jeeps, up to the summit of Mount Ipsarion. There were six people in our jeep, with Stavros driving ... he and his wife Sonja own the company that runs these trips. We stopped at several places along the way to pick up more people, some of whom were driving themselves. I'm glad we weren't driving!
In this stone building are the bones from past villagers. Even people who have moved to the seaside want to be brought back here to rest. Where there are photos, the bones are more recent.
Speyer 2009, Germany - Relique ( Bone) Paul Josef Nardini.
Nardini was considered a saint by the members of his community, and by all the sisters of the order which he had founded, who at the time of his death numbered 220 in 35 locations. His mortal remains were entombed in the Chapel of the Congregation of the order he founded in Pirmasens. The cause for his beatification was begun in June, 1997, in the Diocese of Speyer. On December 19, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized the heroic virtues of Nardini, thus formally making him eligible for beatification.[1] Six months later, on June 26, 2006, the Pope officially recognized the miracle required for Nardini's beatification, the miraculous healing of one of the nuns of the order he founded, Stephana Beyer, from late-stage cancer, which happened after the sisters of her order prayed at Nardini's tomb for her.[2] Pope Benedict XVI authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to promulgate his cause.
Speyer Cathedral, site of the beatification
He was formally beatified in the Speyer Cathedral by Friedrich Cardinal Wetter, who read an Apostolic Letter from the pope officially recognizing Nardini as beatified. There were some 2,000 people present for the ceremony, including some 600 nuns of the order he founded, with thousands of others watching the ceremony on closed circuit television in the square of the cathedral. It was the first beatification in Germany in 10 years, and the first one in which the pope himself was not present. The current bishop of Speyer, Anton Schlembach, called Nardini a "highly gifted minister" who "opened people's eyes to the necessity and beauty of the priesthood" (c) Wikipedia

Bacon has had this bone since February. He hides it, then a few hours later "finds" it again, before marching around the house with it for a few minutes looking for a new hiding place. Ad nauseam.
My parents' dogs got similar bones, which they devoured in five minutes flat. I like to think that Bacon's just making economical use of the entertainment value of his bone.

The crypt of St Leonard’s Church in Hythe contains one of only two ossuaries in the UK (the other is in Rothwell, Northants). It holds over 2,000 skulls arranged neatly along the walls and 8,000 bones in a huge pile stacked almost to the ceiling - like a macabre game of Jenga. When death is such a taboo these days it’s a shock to see so much of it staring you in the face.
