The Santa Clara Museum occupies the space of the former temple of the Royal Convent of Santa Clara, built in 1647. It is located in the Historic Center of Bogotá, in race 8 No. 8-91.

The Museum of Gold (Spanish: El Museo del Oro) is a museum located in Bogotá, Colombia. It is one of the most visited touristic highlights in the country. The museum receives around 500,000 tourists per year.

 

The museum displays a selection of pre-Columbian gold and other metal alloys, such as Tumbaga, –contains the largest collection of gold in the world– in its exhibition rooms on the second and third floors. Together with pottery, stone, shell, wood and textile archaeological objects, these items, made of what to indigenous cultures was a sacred metal, testify to the life and thought of different societies which inhabited what is now known as Colombia before the conquest of the Spanish.

The entire structure of the Capitol is made of quarry stone. The building has three floors, a basement and four interior patios that commemorate Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, Rafael Núñez and Álvaro Gómez Hurtado. Additionally, it has 3 important rooms (Elliptical Room, Boyacá Room and Senate Room).

The main façade is located on the south side of the Plaza de Bolívar and is made up of two symmetrical lateral bodies and a transparent central body as a portico, composed of a colonnade of six rows of three Ionic-style columns that have two openings in each of its ends, one on top of the other and framed by two protruding buttresses supported by two attached pilasters. The building is horizontally crowned with an entablature that ends in a cornice with four taps and a balustrade in which vases and palmets are interspersed. The drainage system at the height of the cornice is adorned with gargoyles with animal heads.

La Candelaria es tradicionalmente la localidad más reconocida de la ciudad pues de ella hace parte todo el centro histórico de Bogotá, desde el sitio original de la fundación de la ciudad (según los historiadores la fecha es el 6 de agosto de 1538) hasta el establecimiento de la primera iglesia y la Plaza Mayor, plaza que actualmente se conoce como la Plaza de Bolívar y en la que está ubicada, en su costado oriental, la Catedral Primada de Colombia, nombre que adquirió aquella primera iglesia construída en plena fundación de la ciudad.
