Forever Spinning Top...

My wonderful wife knows i am a bit of a fidget, so for a gift she bought me a Spinning top. it takes a bit of practice to get them to spin without a wobble but i got this one to do just that.

I actually timed it and it spun for over three minutes then toppled over .. so forever is a bit of an exaggeration LOL

After playing for a while i thought it would be fun to photograph my new toy. i hope you like how it turned out.

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

Trying to photograph in the style of Annie Leibovitz. I was inspired by her black and white portrait of Angelina Jolie. I appreciate how the photo shows off her beautiful bone structure.

This classic pickup truck has been a great subject for my photography. I don't know who this vehicle belongs to but when I'm pointing my camera at it, in that moment, it belongs to me.

The last remaining airworthy Avro Vulcan XH558 in one of her final flights before being grounded later this year. Sadly it will not be possible to see this iconic aeroplane performing at air displays from 2016, owing to withdrawal of support by three of the aerospace companies currently contracted to provide spares and specialist service. Such a pity after the 'Vulcan to the Sky' voluntary project raised sufficient funds to return the aircraft to airworthiness and sustain it well beyond next year. I was lucky enough to see this air display at Church Fenton a few weeks ago.

This beautiful filly was grazing with her mother beneath the incredible Kastarárfjall mountain near Hofn. I believe this is the same mountain range that Vestrahorn is part of, just from the other side. However, the geography and naming is not that clear to me, and unusually Wikipedia proves less than helpful here.

In fact, we were on our way to shoot the famous beach at Vestrahorn when I spotted this little Icelandic horse beauty and her equally beautiful mother and had to stop and try to take a photo of them. The filly was initially very shy of me and her mother was grazing some distance away. Her mother seemed to sense the filly's nervousness and casually wandered nearer but kept grazing. With her mother safely near by the filly grew bold and curious and sauntered right up to me. Here she seems to be trying on her best "blue steel" look as she approaches the camera (if you don't know the reference see this clip from the movie "Zoolander": youtu.be/D519hT7-ytY).

I adore the awkward big head phase of young horses and I loved her shaggy red coat, so that was an irresistible combination. These Icelandic horses are an incredibly beautiful and obviously hardy breed, and as a horse lover I was astounded to see so many of them throughout the country. The people of Iceland take great pains to sustain the integrity of the breed as well. No foreign-born horses are allowed in the country. I do hope this policy is restricted to horses.

I've been enjoying Failblog recently :o)

...here's one I prepared earlier! Alternate title "Ghost in the fork"

Kinda sad I don't have time to attack this theme properly -would of been ideal for the next installment of my classic movies scene series, which could of been "Gone with the fork"....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TeeRish!

Handley Page Victor, the last V-bomber.

Last in a long line of Handley Page bombers, the prototype HP.80 Victor flew from Boscombe Down on 24 December 1952. The first Victor B.Mk I squadron, No 10, became operational in April 1958. The B Mk II was a more powerful version with a larger span; two squadrons were armed with the Avro Blue Steel stand-off missile. Victor B.(PR) Mk I and B.(PR) Mk II were photo-reconnaissance variants. After its days as a strategic nuclear bomber were over, the Handley Page Victor gave sterling service as a fligth refuelling tanker.

From The Encylopedia Of Aircraft

About the model:

I've always found the Handley Page Victor to be one of the most interesting bombers of all times, mainly because of how it looks. With the engines in the wingroots it could be a further development of the de Havilland Comet on steroids. But also the enlarged cross-section of the nose-section of the plane is rather unique. More than 30 years ago i built my first HP Victor, a plastic model kit, in scale 1:72, so I fell for the temptaion of building one in Lego too, and here it is!

It is one of the most complex models I have built so far. It's created in more than 50 Studio file iterations striving to improve the shape and proportions.

Searching for a way to build the nose-section, I fould the 18909 Cone Half 6 x 3 x 6 (Elliptic Paraboloid) to fit very well. And in fact I stayed with this part to iteration no. 41. Then I realized that the nose cross-section isn't circular and replaced this single piece with wedge bricks and tiles to give the nose section a more flat underside.

The engine air intakes were also quite challenging! They are made by angling a pair of Technic bricks inside the wings to hold the panelling on top of the wing. Only thing I'm not satisfied with, is the shape of the intakes I would have liked them to be more eliptical.

Wing design: The inner wing sections are made as a sandwich constuction with studs facing upward on top, and facing down on the underside of the wing, thus making the wing look pretty clean both from above and below. Hinges are used to hold the leading edge of the middle wing section in place. Hinges are also used in combination with wedge plates to form the outer wing-panels.

The model features a pair of openable speedbrakes near the tail cone.

As with many of my other models a few bricks have been painted, some pieces aren't available in dark green.

As always, comments and critisism is more than welcome!
