Gateshead's Millennium footbridge, the blinking eye, viewed from Baltic Square, looking towards Newcastle.

The Tyne bridges between Newcastle and Gateshead.
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge that links the Newcastle Quayside with Gateshead, sited here specifically to provide access to The Baltic (seen here) and the Sage Gateshead, out of shot to the right. The bridge was opened to the public on 17 September 2001. The main structures are steel, with a parabolic arch (matching the Tyne Bridge behind the camera) supporting a deck that is stabilised by 18 suspension cables.
It was the first (two of very different design were opened in Belgium in 2011) tilting bridge in the world and, when tilited, gives a clearance above high water level of 25 metres / 82 feet. The design is very energy efficient during tilting, a process that takes around four minutes. An interesting feature is that it is self-cleaning as, when tilting, any loose material will roll down to traps at either end. Due to the way it opens and closes, it is often referred to as the Blinking or Winking Eye.
The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, opened in 2002 in a former Rank Hovis flour mill that was in operation from 1950-1984. This is the largest surviving brick building in the area, and when built provided a template for many other Rank Hovis Mills.

When first I saw this shot, I wondered what was wrong with the hummer's eye?
Then I realized I'd accidentally caught it blinking!
I googled to see if hummers actually blink, and they do.

The lights start blinking and the alarm sounds. The robotic voice resonates in the hallways 'intruder... intruder...' there are 4 blips on the radar.
She slips into her suit, it's a little tight but she doesn't mind - switching her new heart core processor to maim she jumps onto her bike and heads to the combat zone.

Another view of the same surf scoter I posted a couple days ago. This time he's doing a weird space-alien blinking thing...
While walking a bit in the park I saw something blinking hanging in a bush near the path. I had a closer view and found this pacifier someone may have found and put it at this place. I tried a look through my cam and found it looked somehow amazig. This is the small story of this photo. 😄

This photo was taken with permission although the lady looked away to someone calling out to her and her dog blinked, before running off to bark at someone. I asked the lady if she could tell me his name but she didn't understand (or couldn't hear, perhaps), and said "Julio." The next day, I saw the dog again and said, "Hola Julio"...but "Julio" was the name of the man standing next to him...complicated but funny.
The bathroom light filters weakly through a flickering bulb, casting long, distorted shadows on the cracked tiles. Richard stands on an antique scale, staring at the slowly blinking number as if fate were there, waiting to be revealed.
"Now I weigh less if I carry something in my hand... or the opposite," he says to himself, a cynical half-smile on his lips. The words dissolve into the heavy air, along with the steam rising from the running faucet. The world seems to be collapsing in the confined space of this bathroom, but he keeps waiting, staring at the scale, searching for answers that never come.
The walls hold secrets, the cracks tell stories. And Richard, for some reason, can't stop listening to them.

Adrienne and Kayla materialized in Adrienne’s living room in an instant. It had been the narrowest of escapes. Kayla saw the ladies room door fly open just as they jumped.
Adrienne wobbled slightly, blinking in disorientation. She had no idea how they got here.
Kayla offered a small, reassuring smile. “That’s only part of what the device can do. But we don’t have much time.” She moved to the window, parting the window blind slats to scan the street below. “I brought us back to just after you left for work this morning. That should buy us a little breathing room, but they’ll expect us to come here. Where’s the device?”
Adrienne wasted no time, hurrying to the closet and retrieving the bag containing the mysterious device she had purchased. She placed it on the table and quickly unwrapped it.
Kayla’s eyebrows lifted. “That’s huge! I need to fix that.”
Adrienne watched in stunned silence as Kayla placed her fingertips lightly on the disc. Almost instantly, it shrank to fit comfortably in the palm of her hand. Kayla pulled an identical disc from her jacket and set it beside Adrienne’s. It emitted a soft click.
“This is a VDD—a Vortex Distortion Device,” Kayla explained.
Her tone turned grave as she locked eyes with Adrienne. “We’re in serious danger. You, especially, because you don’t fully understand yet. I’ve just paired our devices to prevent us from becoming separated. ALWAYS keep your device with you and DO NOT lose it.”
Adrienne murmured “VDD” under her breath, committing the term to memory. As soon as she took the device from Kayla, it began to emit a soft glow.
Kayla smiled knowingly. “It’s already bonding with you. I’ll teach you how to use it as soon as we’re in a safe place.”
Adrienne looked closely at the device before slipping it into a pocket, “Does this run on batteries?”
Kayla watched outside, “it draws it draws its energy from the ether. There is electrical energy all around us. You just need to tap into it.”

These waterloving metallic damselfly live near clean waters. When it is warm enough the fly around , this one is waiting to find some sunrays.
Blinking or nictating with the eye lens in birds is quite varied in opacity or colour, as well as the direction of the 'eye wipe' or lubrication. You can click to zoom-in a bit closer to see this species has an almost clear one.
