“The Ark” project was the first attempt of mass colonization of planets outside Solar system. But it was just partly successful. Only third parts of all ships established proper colonies. Some gossips say the real purpose of project was just to get rid of excess population. A few years after the last launch of Ark revolution in hyperspace travelling happened. New hyperdrives were more powerful, faster, reliable, cheaper. So it was possible to establish regular supply lines between new colonies. So there was no need in looking for an ideal world. Colony can be founded everywhere near the source of some valuable resource.

New colonization project was called “Legacy”. It was based on fleets of smaller ships instead of one huge ship as before. “Patriarch” spacecraft was designed to carry fast deployable modules of a new colony. Habitats, industrial facilities, power plants. Everything that is needed to start building. All modules can function on the surface of planet and in space. At first group of engineers constructs small outpost on the planet, builds foundations for landing modules, and after that they are dropped off the orbit. They have their own engines for soft precise landing. Ship’s reactor can also be used as a power plant of settlement. In this case ship stays in orbit and will be deconstructed in future.

Last, but not the least. Big problem of the Ark was in its colonists. It’s very hard to keep billions of people alive in cryosells. Patriarchs have incubation facilities onboard and huge stock of genetic material. The idea is to grow most of population of a new colony artificially. DNA can be modified to provide better adaptability in case of hazardous environment. Moreover, by default all defects, random mutations and genetic illnesses were deleted from genetic material. Should I say it had serious consequences in future?

Commissioned build for gman_animations over on Instagram.

Never thought I'd do a Cyberpunk build (I'm much more of a Deus Ex fellow), but here we are. This leans pretty heavily on the initial Manticore concepts by Ben Andrews - but any further forays into Cyberpunk would certainly have more of a personal touch.

A build like this, with articulated engine mounts, functional hatchwork, and a detailed interior, presents many opportunities for animated presentation work - but I can only carve out so much time per project. Make sure to head over to gman's profile to see what ultimately comes of this. ;)

This is a part of a small future series of MOC's that can be called Astrominers. A realistic point of view to mining in space. This is some kind of mobile drilling platform. Two turnable engines, allow to move back and forward. 3 types of drilling heads are available. Short range and low life support capability means it should work together with lardger ships.

Hey, Rico, I’ve heard you are still chilling on LV-1136. Give up that damned frozen world and join us! Can you believe? Now we have our own salvage ship. Jolly Reaper. And I’m a navigator here. Do you remember that crash on LV-1287? New Qadesh. Olimp class freighter collided into orbital cargo transfer station. Lots of dead bodies, lots of debris. Those bastards from the Transport Alliance didn’t admitted it was their ship. Station was completely ruined, but the ship was repaired and modified. Yes, now it’s a salvage ship. And it belongs to the Outer Worlds. Yes, it’s huge. Damn biggest salvage ship, as I know. You should join us as soon as possible. We are making real money. Last time we sold almost all systems of abandoned freighter. Other salvagers can take only couple of valuable parts. We took almost everything. And most of our crew looted some small stuff for themselves. You know, some personal thing of dead ship’s crew, lots of gadgets, displays, wires. Everything you can sell personally to other people, not to the companies. But I don’t care about that. Abandoned ship is dangerous place and I’m a bit coward. However, you are reckless one. So you can try to find something valuable. You told you’ve given up job on freighters. You were tired and bored of similar flights. And we always have something different! And crew is fine. There is always somebody to talk or drink with. Don’t wait. Nowadays Jolly Reaper is the only such ship in this sector. And there is still some loot here. But everything may change…

Where am I from? Colax. Ordinary mining colony. There are dozens of them. Not a perfect place, but it could be worse. Atmosphere is inert, put pressure is normal. So oxygen mask is your best friend there. It’s quite cool place: 10-15C at day, just above zero at night. Rocks, sand and dust everywhere. And iron ore. Goode one. It’s only reason for colony to exist. Ore is quite unique; it’s very reach and doesn’t need much refining. The whole subsector gets iron from here. Plus a bit of extra rare metals. Colax isn’t old colony, everything works perfect. Most of industrial processes are automated. So there are not many workers. It will change in future when machines will start to break. More workers to support equipment, more equipment to support life of workers. You understand. But now it’s fine. Mines are in good condition, metal factory too. Sometimes some issues happen in spaceport, but it is normal. Usually it’s quite there, only a few shuttles arrive per week. But when a large cargo ship appears on orbit, it’s total mess. Such ships can’t land due to their size, so small orbital shuttles are used. Lots of them. But number of landing pads is limited. Spaceport works non-stop for several days to process cargo. And if only somebody mixes up container…

– Why have I chosen RSS Korolev? Every captain wants such ship. Fast. Huge. Convenient. Never mind, I m just joking. Someone else would say something about a new frontier and a spirit of discovery. As for me, it s just a new experience. You know, if you are captain, it s almost impossible to find anything except cargo ship. Or a liner for the lucky ones. It s not bad, but those routine delivery missions are too identical. Fly somewhere, take cargo, go back, repeat. This research voyage is completely different. Much more responsibility. There are larger cargo ships, but the crew is always low, a couple of dozens at the biggest ones. And all of them are captain s subordinates. Captain is a god on his ship. Here… everything is different. Hundreds of scientists are not just passengers. I have to change course if some astronomer finds some unusual star or if a biologist decides to scan particular planet for life. It s a bit annoying. Some more conservative person could find such situation real headache. But I don t want to return to the freighters.

– They can say everything they want, but NavSystems was a general sponsor of this mission. So our aim is establishing new hyperspace routes and correcting old ones. Most expansive and complicated equipment of this ship are all kinds of hyperspace scanners. Laying a new route isn t a simple task. You have to keep in mind many factors to make it fast, reliable, safe, economic. And profitable for company. Days, when ship had to have huge powerful expansive computer onboard to calculate hyperjump, are gone. Companies like NavSystem provide access to their servers to make calculations as simple as it possible. Global hyperspace beacon network collects all necessary data; servers process it and give all parameters of a jump for a fair payment. This entire infrastructure has high running cost, so we can t do it for free.

– Those bastards from the “navigators guild” think they are masters here. But most of them don t even understand that their precious hyperroutes are useless if nobody wants to use them. Every journey needs a reason. The most common and obvious one is valuable resource deposit. Humanity needs more resources for further expansion. That s why we should check every possible planet, moon or asteroid belt. Moreover, every planet is unique and can tell scientists something new and may be important. We ve already done several discoveries. But “navigators” always hurry us up if they find star system useless for them. We must do something.

– This expedition has already given us good results. We collected tons of information and statistics. It will help for new colonists a lot. Some people hope we can find one more earth-like planet. It will be a great success. However, we checked thousands of planets and none of them is suitable for human without any special equipment. We even found some samples of life, but it were just bacteria and a couple of simplest seaweeds. Space is a dead place. I hope we can change this in future.

Some people call us marauders, scavengers. That’s close to the truth. It’s our job. Sometimes space ships break. And they can’t always be repaired. Too much damage. Too far from inhabited systems. We are looking for abandoned starships and disassemble them. Even if the ship exploded, there are still some valuable parts that can be sold. But they explode very rarely. Usually ships die because of malfunction of couple of systems. The other ones stay undamaged. We cut out the most valuable parts. It’s impossible to take everything we want. Just those things that can fit into the hold and external containers. So the profit isn’t very big. And do not forget about risks. Abandoned ship is a dangerous place. Something unexpected can happen anytime. So, why do we do it? Because someone has to take back those resources. Miners dug ore. Than the metal was made. Electronics. The ship was assembled. We just trying to make this work not worthless if the ship dies. And get some money.

Soviet rocket that was designed by NPO Energia to serve as a heavy-lift partially recoverable launch system for a variety of payloads including the Buran spacecraft. The Energia used four strap-on boosters each powered by a four-chamber RD-170 engine burning kerosene/LOX, and a central core stage with 4 one-chamber RD-0120 engines fueled by liquid hydrogen/LOX. The rocket had the capacity to place about 100 tonnes in Low Earth orbit, up to 20 tonnes to geostationary orbit and up to 32 tonnes to a translunar trajectory.

This Hammerhead was structurally the same, although it featured the several new additions.

These included two extra modules mounted to the port and starboard of the craft, six escape pods in place of the cargo bay, and a fourth sublight drive mounted on top of the primary three, giving it enough power to single-handedly move a disabled Star Destroyer.

This was the version used the most during the Battle of Scarif.
