A test stitch for Infinity Stitches on Facebook. It was easy for a beginner - me, and fun to stich.
I glued cork fabric to the back and, as soon as that is dry, it will be hung on the sunroom wall.

My work-in-progress for the Gorey stitchalong! I chose the illustration Gorey did for Sarah Caudwell's murder mystery, 'Thus Was Adonis Murdered'. One of my favourite books, by one of my favourite authors, with cover art by one of my favourite illustrators... of course I had to embroider it!

I've been collecting hand embroidered items at thrift stores (things like napkins, pillow cases, table runners, etc) to make into a quilt. Word spread through my social grapevine, and a friend very kindly sent me embroidered items from the thrift store that she volunteers at. Some were unsuitable for my purposes because they were machine embroidered, and/or they were synthetic (I'm aiming for natural fibres). But it was such a thoughtful gesture that I am very determined to use it all. This means that I get to come up with some creative solutions.
One of the items was this polyester doily. The daffodils reminded me of Wales. I remembered a blackwork pattern I still had from years ago. My mother bought it as part of a kit. I made it up for her, then used waste canvas to put it on the back of a blouse for me. The pattern has sat in a bin ever since. I fished it out, and used waste canvas (left from the blouse project) to embroider the doily. The variegated red thread was also from a thrift store, part of a mixed bag of embroidery thread that I bought for cheap.
I think that I will use the doily as en embellishment on a bag eventually? I found two thriftstore tea towels of Wales that will form the main bag and lining. It will be my humble tribute to Wales.
