I spent an hour with this man as he made the metal hoop to go round a wooden wheel for an ox cart. His technology was unchanged in centuries. It was fascinating to watch him skilfully shape and bond the metal.
Yossi Gur Arye, blacksmith artist, lives in Ofra, married and has four children and a great sense of humor. And such talent !
Yossi makes objects as they were made ages back in biblical time. His demonstration on the spot was utterly fascinating, and so was his workshop. Each tool by itself was a piece of art.

Hoover Blacksmith Shop at Hebert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, IA (1957). Jesse Hoover was a blacksmith by trade and operated out of a shop close to the house. He appears to have been very successful, as he sold the practice in 1878 to open a farm goods store; however, he died two years later. The Hoovers were originally against the idea of reconstructing the blacksmith shop, since they thought it would not be authentic. But after an archealogical survey of the site, which they combined with Tad Hoover's recollections of the building, the Hoovers were satisfied with the project. The reconstruction was built with repurposed timber from a 1870 barn.
Pioneer Village. Pioneer Village is the reconstruction of a typical frontier community as it might have existed in the late 1800s. This community consists of 42 authentic 19th century stores and buildings and the artifacts with which they may have been furnished. The Village features one of the finest collections of small arms in the country, including guns, slingshots, crossbows, and cannons. The Carriage Hall features almost every type of wheeled conveyance used at the turn-of-the-century.
A Rock Chapel stands at the head of Pioneer Village. Originally constructed in Coalville, Utah in 1853, the building was first used as a fort. It later became a courthouse, a schoolhouse, and a church.
Among the many other treasures in the Village are a one-room schoolhouse, a two-story sawed log house, smokehouse, millinery shop, clock shop, tool museum, hardware store, cobbler shop, co-op, print shop, music hall, gingerbread house, doll museum, and town hall.
