In my experience its one of the toughest eagle to shoot against sky & getting focus locked in flight. The countless hours spent in mountains & images made were not usable. Atleast for few years I could not even make one decent image. Efforts are totally waste....if you fail to learn from your mistakes, understand your equipment & learn to read the light.

A Northrop T-38C Talon of the 435th Flying Training Squadron "Deadly Black Eagles" from Randolph AFB painted in a retro Aggressor scheme heads out to the range as part of the "Red Force" while participating in Red Flag 17-2 exercises at Nellis AFB.
If it was just a dream, I would dream of it all my life. But yes, it was one. This Magnificent & one of the most powerful raptor with wingspan of almost 6ft, known for its slow characteristic flight over canopy that I would never mistake... sending Giant squirrels, birds & young macaques for a cover.
It all started on 17th January few years ago with Clement Francis’s email of bird shot in golden light. I wanted to see one. Whenever I traveled towards Hills & Mountain forests, with excitement I would put my head out of bus/car window hoping to see one in flight. But I never did see one for a year.
My quest to see and document the Blacks took me to the remotest & the best places in Western Ghats... Few years back I did get a chance to sight a pair in flight... It was late evening in fading light they flew past rocky edges and over a mountain and they vanished. I cannot explain the excitement after seeing one after so many years. Nothing could stop me from then... ventured out exploring Mountain ranges of Kuduremukha national park, Hill ranges of Mullayanagiri, Baba buddan ,Kemmangundi, BR Hills ,Charmadi Ghats , Chembra Peak (highest peak in Wayanad), Silent valley national park. I would take leaves for entire week and sit and look out over the mountains from 6am to 6pm to see them fly over canopy where I could make this image. It took me almost two years and the affair continues....
