Z shows off the badass bite marks on his cheek from the other Z, his buddy Zach

I couldn't help but dig into the warm treat as soon as I got it. Below the crisp, sugary crust is a moist, bread-y, chewy interior. The flakes gave the waffle slightly more chew and streaked the batter with its sweet strawberry flavour. I was most impressed that the waffles never got soggy, especially being enclosed, while still hot, in a plastic box.

Red-Bellied Water Snake

Congaree National Park

Near Columbia, SC

If you have kept up with the previous two photograph's i have posted you would know that i was on a three day road trip to North Carolina. After the first night of getting sleep i felt great, we even slept in until 10! So we woke up and then headed to McDonalds for some early lunch before we hit the road. We got our food and were on the way south.

We drove to the Columbia, SC area where we saw the signs for Fort Jackson which is a Army Post. So we decided to check it out as that is where Brandon will be for his Basic Training. So we got into the base and drove around, we spent a good hour or two checking out the place. It was awesome, we even went and ate at there Taco Bell. There even were two Special Forces Instructors sitting next to us enjoying some taco bell as well. So we finally made our way back onto I-77 and only had a few exits to go before we got to the Congaree National Park Exit.

So getting off exit six we were close to our destination. Turning down all these roads we kept heading into more of a sketchy area, there were literally two or three bar's every mile which all were abandoned. The houses were beat to crap and just falling apart. We thought we were going to be driving into our deaths. So with the feeling of some Jeeper's Creepers crap happening we tried to make some last minute tweet's to all of our follower's but sadly there was no service. So getting closer and closer to the National Park entrance it also is getting more and more freaky.

Finally we pull into the parking lot and are greeted by one of the nicest Information/Museum centers for a state/national park i have ever seen. The bathrooms looked like they were out of the damn White House they were so nice. So we headed inside and talked to one of the Park Ranger's about the park and he told us that if we got a photograph of a Ivory Billed Woodpecker we would get a 10,000 dollar reward! Hell yes we thought, but that was most likely not happening as they are thought to be extinct.

So we grabbed some maps and laughed at the mosquito meter sign as it was between moderate and severe. We made our way onto the first trail which was the lower boardwalk. After the first hundred yards or so you make your way into a very dense and very hot lush landscape filled tropical paradise. With a temperature of 99 degrees and a heat index of 110 we had been sure to bring plenty of water. Soon the mosquito's got worse as we made our way further into the creepy paradise.

It was a rather spooky place, with millions of bird calls and other weird sounds. Animal tracks were all through the muck. So after we finished the Boardwalk trail we went to continue or way towards Weston Lake which was a 4 mile loop. So we kept on going, the mosquito level was horrible. So far on our journey we came across two Red Tailed Hawks, Several Dozen Pilated Wood Peckers and a million Salamanders.

Making our way along the trail i spot this gorgeous little gal, she was just resting on a log covered with mushrooms. We instantly snapped a bunch of shots off of the beaut. And then the fun began, we turned on the video camera and Brandon filmed me catching this guy, which i will say was much more difficult than it should have been. It included falling down a ten foot cliff into a dark water filled creek. Getting bit by 500 mosquitos and even taking a few good bites from this guy. So i finally caught the beautiful snake and talked about him a little for the camera.

After all that was done we placed him back on the log and we went our separate ways. We continued our journey through the Park but we will leave that for another photo.

Saturday was a beautiful day on Astrolabe Bay  north of Madang at Wongat Island.  The sun was shining fiercely, the sea was flat and mirrored and the fish were jumpin' and the cotton was high. Whoops, that's a little of George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess  slipping in there. I must have listened to that operetta a thousand times as a child. The line is from Summertime  sung by Porgy. I can still sing it from memory.

Here are the first couple of verses:

Summertime,

And the livin' is easy

Fish are jumpin'

And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich

And your mamma's good lookin'

So hush little baby

Don't you cry

I always loved Gershwin. Rhapsody in Blue  is my very favourite.

Well, I'm rambling already, but it's Monday morning, so I may as well get an early start on the week.

How about this very cute French Canadian, Genevieve, sitting in the cockpit of the B-25 bomber The Green Dragon: Now, that is a very fetching sight. However, it's not funny. I'm in the mood for funny.

And funny I give you: Just forward of the starboard wing is an anemone inhabited by a very feisty little group of Clark's Anemonefish (Amphiprion clarkii).  That's not the funny part. Here you can see Genevieve's darling hand stretched out to play with the cute little fishies. They dart about and brush against your fingertips as if they are enjoying it. Do not believe it. It is a ploy to lure you within range of their teensy-weensy little teeth. A couple of seconds after I took this shot I heard a piercing scream. I looked at Genevieve. She had a startled look on her face and was shaking and rubbing her hand. I knew, of course, what had happened and I began to laugh into my regulator, an experience which itself is comical.

After doing the Bomber, we attempted The Henry Leith from the beach. It was a mistake. I couldn't find a 34 metre wreck only about 100 metres off the beach. I will excuse my poor navigation by mentioning that the visibility was less than ten metres. Back up on top of the reef, we spent the rest of a seventy minute dive snapping whatever looked promising, such as this ridiculously orange sponge: What's that  all about?

I did manage a nice one of a couple of Clown Anemonefish (Amphiprion percula)  in an absurdly green anemone: Yes, those are Nemo's cousins.

Here is a typical coral bomie in the range of depth between one an about seven metres. They are covered with Christmas Tree Worms (Spirobranchus giganteus): Last Christmas I gave my faithful readers Christmas Tree Worms for Christmas, complete with Christmas presents.

I'm such a cheapskate.

Beautiful model, Nikki Beckett posing for me today!

No it's not all blood you see here, the big dark spots are part of the 'authentic' floor of this restauarant. Phew !

One woman was taken to hospital with more than one hunderd bite wounds and three others were injured following the escape of a male gorilla at Rotterdam's Blijdorp zoo on Friday. Two other people were injured during the evacuation and one zoo worker is suffering from shock after coming face to face with the animal. The zoo was crammed with people because of the holiday weekend.

The gorilla Bokito which escaped from Rotterdam's Blijdorp zoo on Friday afternoon went on view to the public again on Saturday. But the gorillas' outside enclosure remains closed while the investigation into how the silverback, who weighs 180 kilos, managed to cross a wide ditch full of water to get to the public areas.

Meanwhile, a zoo official said the woman who was attacked and dragged off by Bokito appeared to have been deliberately targeted.

She was a season ticket holder and visited the zoo on a daily basis, spending a lot of time at the gorilla enclosure. The gorilla made straight for her on his escape, ignoring several children, news agency ANP reported.

The woman is under sedation in hospital where she is undergoing several operations. She has a broken wrist and lower arm and was bitten a number of times.

Hey! I was kidding you know...

Just a Harley bite, and the healed remnants of a few previous harley bites. Macaws crush more than they pierce, or cut, thankfully.

Definite proof that pets should not be allowed near a puzzle table. This looks like a cat to me.

Oh well, a risk with used puzzles, I guess.

Oddly enough, the previous owner claims that he didn't notice it.

It took some courage to march onto to the property to get somebody's attention after the bite!

biters welcome here. I painted this since it is the international symbol for "welcome," right?

“Luciana, this doesn´t feel right. Dogs are supposed to be irracional, we can´t help it. But humans are not. That Bull Terrier female was after me, I know. And I was pretty scared of her, that was why I was snarling at her and you were holding me in your arms. She would have bitten me on my bottom if you hadn´t protected me with your arm. But tell me: why wouldn´t her human take her on a leash? Why did her human insist on walking so close to us if the park is so huge? Why was her human so aggressive towards you when you asked her to make sure her dog wouldn´t attack anyone else? And why did her human suddenly disappear when she saw your arm was bleeding? Was that human rational?” Flô
