Bit of a noir feel as night falls, on the edge of Strangford Lough.

Did some long overdue birdwatching over the weekend, so will be "taking a break" from the arboretum pics before resuming again.

Spotted this male Northern Cardinal at the "Blazing Hot Blend" feeder - pepper treated seeds to deter the squirrels and seems to work, too. Mr Cardinal is looking a bit ragged but not sure if it's due to the stress from parenting or because of the extremely hot weather we've had in our area lately? Or something else completely different?

** Mind you, our hot weather is nothing like some other areas are experiencing but still - hot for our area! And no doubt the heat affects wildlife regardless of where they are located.

Nothing awesome about this wave I just like the moment I caught it.

A bit south of Carmel-By-The-Sea along the California coast is a tiny valley covered in lily flowers in late winter and early spring. We went there for sunset. A small creek flows into the Pacific Ocean, forming ever changing tiny valleys and hills with ripples. I froze the action with a very short exposure time.

I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

A Masai Giraffe stretching for that piece of vegetation that is just out of reach. It obviously tastes much better than the bits lower down.

Just when I was wondering what to photograph for Macro Monday's theme of "Found in the Kitchen" I spied this bit of fluff dangling from my kitchen light shade.

HMM to all.

Hidden Pond Trail. Carter's Lake. North Georgia.

9/30/2017.

A bit 'twiggy' but I like the pose and fall colors. This view shows the field marks well, notably the white under tail coverts. In Tennessees the undertail , even if not white, will always be lighter than the rest of the underside. The face shows the eye-line and lighter supercilium (stripe above eye), and the beak is noticeably sharp. In all fall plumages for this species, in contrast to in the Spring, the primary feathers (longest wing feathers) show white tips.

2 more species to post for the 37 eastern warbler sweep for 2017, a feat that I probably won't ever accomplish in one year again.

Disintegrated pieces of Icebergs floating back at the Diamond beach.

Something bit special from an evening out in falling snow.

It is not very often that I get such a possibility to make a photograph where you have already been sure that it will be very special. The mood has something indescribably unique and you need all your concentration to make a photo at all, because this moment is so wonderful and you do not want to miss it. This was such a moment when I stood with an umbrella armed in the slow falling snow show and the passing sun was still showing through the clouds before disappeared behind the horizon. Some kind of magic...

I hope you can imagine something of it, in this shot the falling snow is unfortunately not so clearly visible. Lol... ;-)

Cheers

Bit of a funny lazy day today. Stayed at home pottering around. Eventually went out for a walk in the wind but forgot to take the camera. So emergency photo time again for the group. This one is the back end of the ironing board.

Day 232 of 365 - Down the Road a Bit

On Black

This is a through the window while driving shot tortured significantly in Nik Silver Efex Pro, photoshop and aperture. I am not thrilled with it but I am posting it for my photo a day project.

edit:

Thank you all for all of the positive comments. After sleeping on it and all of your comments and favs I am liking it more. I think this is a case of not being able to see past the original shot (which was undoubtedly awful, see for yourself) to what I made of it.

Small and Smaller is this week’s theme for Macro Mondays, therefore different size of tool bits on black slate. Do make the photos more interesting, splashing water von above, lighting the water with a mirror, beam above the black slate.

A bit of housekeeping over the last few days, and going back through some images from a few years ago in the Norwegian Fjords. A handheld shot, that I took just because of the immense background behind these houses. What a place to live! Whilst enviable in some respects, it was a pretty bleak day, and I'm sure they will have more than a few days like this. It must make it a harsh place to live at times.

That bit about stirring coffee is not true, I'm sorry. This is just a rusty spade bit.

Macro Mondays Knolling

By the end of George V's reign the threepence had become unpopular in England because of its small size

The physical dimensions of the brass threepence remained the same in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The effigy of the queen produced by Mary Gillick was used, with the inscription ELIZABETH II DEI GRA BRITT OMN REGINA F D used in 1953, and ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D used in all other years.

The reverse shows a Tudor portcullis with chains and a coronet, with the inscription THREE PENCE date.

This coin was produced in all years from 1953 to 1967, and in 1970 (in proof sets only).

Following decimalisation, the brass threepence ceased to be legal tender after 31 August 1971.

Something different I actually liked this coin, when I was a lad if you had a few of these you were rich.

I finally got Photoshop 2023 loaded on my new laptop today. After working in PSE21 for the past 2+ years, it is proving to be a bit of a challenge to figure out where all the tools are and the nuances of working with them... so I hope to gradually master it again.

Many thanks to Kathy for sharing the beautiful source:

www.flickr.com/photos/183971907@N05/49507240802/in/pool-p...

I created three layers with Kathy's photo (the top 1/3 inverted) in Photoshop 2023. Then, I put that composite in DDG Text 2 Dream as the source with the prompt:

A beautiful woman, A Topsy Turvy village in Bermuda, pastels, in the style of Catherine Abel, sensuality, elegant, beautiful, post cinematic lighting. It gave back a city. I created a woman in DDG. I layered it on top the other DDG layer in PS23 at 48%., resized it, re-shaped it, stroked the edge with 30 pixels of a blue from the work, and color modified it. Finally, I applied five Topaz Studio looks at varying percentages.

Thanks for your visit, faves, and kind comments.

Bit of an early upload but I really like this photo tbh

By the way, apart from a bit of adjustment on the contrast, this was the colour the camera captured

What can I say, I like this one a lot.. It was a foggy cool early morning I spotted these beautiful purple colors "popping" out against the light green and milky fog. The small rise and fence made a great image.

Bit of a stitched panorama of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. I kind of like the central composition of the tree here, I did consider not stitching as many images together, but even with the panorama it works for me…

Behind John, who is picking up some of the broken pieces of some of the hollows, or geodes recently removed from the pit and examining them for potential collecting, is the large pile of overburden and debris, containing some nice thundereggs and mostly broken pieces - right behind him you can see where some secondary digging was done to remove a few nodules hidden inside the large pile.

I haven't shot the SMC much as I think it often looks a bit dull, but having been inspired by a shot by Jarrod Rueff I thought I would try part of it with RGB colour and dual narrowband luminance! 22.5 hours across the 4 filters, Takahashi FSQ106N telescope, QHY268M camera, Astronomik RGB filters, Optolong dual narrowband filter, Proxisky UMi20S EQ mount, processing in APP and PS. Bit of a damp morning here. The birds still have to feed tho' so nice for me to sit in the dry to watch my garden visitors.

Bit's n Bob's at the edge of the Harbour Walkway near the water's edge.

This is a 2cm seed head that blew into the garden from parts unknown…

After waiting for a bit at the former pig ramp until "Run 33" finishes switching at West Wye, CPKC train YKK24-27 eases up the lead alongside the Hansen-Mueller elevator with a gray KCS GP38-2 and several flat cars with a few strings of welded rail. They'll make a brief stop at West Wye Tower for some paperwork before leaving Knoche for Grandview. It's a pretty underwhelming train, but it's cool to see some KCS "battleship gray" again.

This engine started life on the Toledo, Peoria & Western in May of 1977 as the TPW No. 2001. After the "Tip-Up" merged with the Santa Fe, it became ATSF No. 3561, later renumbered to 2370 and even being repainted into the "Kodachrome" paint scheme in the midst of the ill-fated "SPSF" merger. It was repainted again into the "Yellowbonnet" scheme, and eventually sold as the GMTX No. 2370 before KCS picked it up. It was the KCS No. 4029 before being renumbered as the 1921 as a newly delivered SD70ACe took its number. 9/27/25.

I have far too many photos from this shoot. :)

Bit grainy as its beyond a garden and a few houses

On March 31st I walked out the side door of our house and a wee bit of a dog ran up to me from behind our neighbor’s fence. It was soaking wet and shivering up a storm. I walked over and though the dog cowered when I approached it, I was able to grab a skinny broken leash and picked it up in my arms. It was soaking wet and shivering. We had thunderstorms the night before and it had heavy downpours of rain in the morning. It also got as low as 33 degrees overnight.

I brought it in our house and announced to my husband, “Look what I found”, can we keep it?”. We wrapped it in a towel and started to dry it off. We never even checked to see if it were a boy or girl, but I kept calling her “SHE” because of that pretty little face that was staring at me.

Our neighbors do not own a dog but we called one of them to see if they knew who the dog belonged to. He said that before he went to work, he saw two people walking past his house that looked like they were calling out for a pet. But that was already about 3 hours earlier.

My husband decided we would take “HER” in the car and drive around to see if we could locate the owners. But before we left, my husband got on the neighborhood FACEBOOK site and immediately saw a message about a LOST DOG! We got the owner’s address, grabbed the dog, and off we went. On the way, we passed several signs on trees and light posts that read “LOST DOG, LUCY. Very Skittish. Do not approach. Call this number:$%#@$%%”. So Lucy was a girl! I told you so!

Her owner had been walking Lucy late the evening before when a sudden sound made her take off. She was on one of those retractable leashes and as she ran off, the plastic “leash winder” bounced behind her making her run away even faster. Her owner tried chasing her, but Lucy ran and disappeared. That happened at 10 pm and I discovered her at 11:30 the following day. From her escape to our block, the retractable leash holder had been torn away.

It was a happy ending. Lucy’s owner was beside herself when she saw us. She only had Lucy since November when she adopted this rescue dog from a puppy factory. She told us that Lucy is really skittish and easily spooked, I cannot imagine what it was like for her to be outside in the thunderstorms the night before.

It was such a good feeling to see the tears on the owner’s face when the two were reunited. I think Lucy got lucky when she ran into our neighbor's yard.

One thing I wanted to spend a bit of time doing while up in Ardnamurchan was camera trapping. Using a PIR at a selected spot, it triggers the camera based on movement. It gives a unique perspective, enabling you to capture photos you wouldn’t otherwise be able to.

In this case I was keen to show the Pine Marten that were visiting the cottage I was staying at in their forest environment. A little bit of fill flash was needed as it's quite dark in the wood, but I'm pleased with these.

After a bit of a gap in trains a distant rumble of a freight could be heard. Hoping for a more traditional 131 pair we were greeted by ZSSK Cargo 383 202. Although not the target you can't argue it looked nice with its mixed freight under the Tatras. 363 142 was on the rear banking the freight towards Poprad.

Photo taken slightly early due to a speed sign that has been removed just in front of the loco.

At Queenscliff , Victoria

A bit of a murky morning but although there was little sign of the sunrise, there's always potential for an image if you embrace the conditions.

Together with harebell these pretty flowers, sometimes called sheep's-bit scabious, created an early autumn carpet of blue on the sand dunes at Leasowe Gunsite.

A bit of a rarity for our area and time of year, and a lifer for me! I went to this location hoping to see the Say's Phoebe that has been spotted here over the last couple days and did not see the Phoebe, but did see this LeConte's Sparrow foraging on the ground..
