Pictures taken during exercising my hobby (electronics) and building/disassembling amplifiers and/or upgrading a record player tonearm and pre-amplifier. Anyway, a text was needed, to describe this lot, and here it is (the text and the lot, enjoy the pictures :)).

Assemble Borg designer Yasuhiro Nightow is a Takara SF Land fan so it's worth scrutinising his designs for nods to the classic lines that inspired him. For instance, this particular look for the Nexus figure could be seen as an updated Cybercop design. The chin, massive scowl and chest piece seem to be a tip of the hat to Lucifer Bit while the ear-wings are reminiscent of Mercury Bit.
The Cybercop figures never really got the recognition they deserved back then. They were superbly-articulated, the accessories were fantastic (and this being a Takara line, there naturally was a drill) and there was even a slick vehicle. If they look fairly unimpressive 27 years later, you need only look at the competition to appreciate just how outstanding they were at the time.
Cybercop was later repackaged and sold in the US as ZAP Power Force but it seemed to have made no impact whatsoever. That really was typical of Takara: great action figures coupled with mediocre marketing.
But it really says a lot that another generation of toy designers are taking inspiration from those old designs. The Diaclone toys may have less cachet than their Transformers counterparts but with fans like Shogo Hasui around, it's no surprise there's going to be an update of Diabattles thirty years later.
Our late winter break in Tenerife was a bit different this year. The weather was forecast to break the day we arrived – and it did! Rain wasn’t the problem it was gale force winds – the same winds that caused the dust storms in Africa that caused the pollution and sand in the UK. We have witnessed gales in Tenerife before but this was worse than we’d seen it in the past . The palm trees were bending, the sand drifting like snow and the sea was raging. We usually walk around 150 miles on a ten day break but for five days we just walked with a brief spell on the beach, then the gales came back. We covered 22 miles some days and totalled 192 miles, not bad for a beach holiday. In some of the photos it looks stunning but look at the tops of the palm trees, like inside out umbrellas, the beach beds are empty and the waves were up to ten feet high and smashing thirty feet in the air. For five days everyone stood taking photos of the sea. For two days all boats stayed in harbour, only the big ferries sailed, there wasn’t a thing at sea, not even the surfers, we’ve never known that happen before. To add to this jellyfish in their hundred were washing up on shore and there was a severe risk of a burn from them. Even when red flags were flying and flags warning about the jellyfish were up the occasional nutter would go in the water and some people took staggering risks with their children including one couple with a baby, dangling it over the waves, just to get a photo, playing chicken as monster waves crashed in.
One day I had to catch my club sandwich as it went flying from my plate in the wind, empty glasses slid off the table and seat cushions went cartwheeling down the pavement. A couple of days were dull and cool but the menacing clouds made impressive photos, the sea was like a boiling cauldron. We did have days of beautiful weather as well, the second half of the holiday was normal sunny Tenerife. I haven’t hired a car for ages on Tenerife, it adds a degree of hassle to – what is supposed to be – a sun and relax holiday so again we didn’t go up El Teide. Next time perhaps. I took my racing bike once just to cycle from sea level to 8000 feet nonstop – twice! it’s a seventy mile round trip and a long drag to the top. On the way home we had to make an emergency landing in Dublin, fire tenders with foam jets pointing at us, unfortunately I was facing the setting sun and couldn’t take photos as the sun was shining straight through the window. Seven and a half hours on the plane, not much fun.

Bit more tinkering today. Not immediately visible but the winch has been moved closer to the underlift to provide a bit of room for a ballast tank behind the cab. Some hoses have been replaced and it has had some oil put in. The Interstater has now had some more action to get the rams working.

A bit of a perspective trick using the wide angle, although mum really was rather large and the little guys really were rather small :-)
Bit of a spooky little place here. The stairs give the impression that you are going down to a basement but the building is on a split level so it's just a back way in to the main building.
Heathlands Care Home was a residential care home for elderly people situated just up the road from where I live. More recently it was aimed at dementia care.
I can remember when I first came to Bracknell it was a thiving little community with lots of events being held there and the chef used to make and sell his own Christmas Puddings.
Just after it was built in the very early 1970's it was used as a school in the Sean Connery film " The Offence" I think it was known as Brackley School.
However, due to 50 per cent of it's beds remaining vacant since mid 2014 the decision was made to close the centre and it now stands empty so today I decided to have a little explore and see if I could get some shots.
All of the interior shots were taken through the windows and not from inside. I didn't want to take the risk of setting off any alarms that may still be active as there were some lights still on.

A couple of days were dull and cool but the menacing clouds made impressive photos, the sea was like a boiling cauldron. We did have days of beautiful weather as well, the second half of the holiday was normal sunny Tenerife. I haven’t hired a car for ages on Tenerife, it adds a degree of hassle to – what is supposed to be – a sun and relax holiday so again we didn’t go up El Teide. Next time perhaps. I took my racing bike once just to cycle from sea level to 8000 feet nonstop – twice! it’s a seventy mile round trip and a long drag to the top. On the way home we had to make an emergency landing in Dublin, fire tenders with foam jets pointing at us, unfortunately I was facing the setting sun and couldn’t take photos as the sun was shining straight through the window. Seven and a half hours on the plane, not much fun.

Our late winter break in Tenerife was a bit different this year. The weather was forecast to break the day we arrived – and it did! Rain wasn’t the problem it was gale force winds – the same winds that caused the dust storms in Africa that caused the pollution and sand in the UK. We have witnessed gales in Tenerife before but this was worse than we’d seen it in the past . The palm trees were bending, the sand drifting like snow and the sea was raging. We usually walk around 150 miles on a ten day break but for five days we just walked with a brief spell on the beach, then the gales came back. We covered 22 miles some days and totalled 192 miles, not bad for a beach holiday. In some of the photos it looks stunning but look at the tops of the palm trees, like inside out umbrellas, the beach beds are empty and the waves were up to ten feet high and smashing thirty feet in the air. For five days everyone stood taking photos of the sea. For two days all boats stayed in harbour, only the big ferries sailed, there wasn’t a thing at sea, not even the surfers, we’ve never known that happen before. To add to this jellyfish in their hundred were washing up on shore and there was a severe risk of a burn from them. Even when red flags were flying and flags warning about the jellyfish were up the occasional nutter would go in the water and some people took staggering risks with their children including one couple with a baby, dangling it over the waves, just to get a photo, playing chicken as monster waves crashed in.

By Road
Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu (7 hours)
Sandakan to Lahad Datu (4 hours). This is an increasingly more popular way to visit Tabin whereby visitors take a flight to Sandakan where they visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, and perhaps the Selingan Turtle Island, then onward to Sukau in Kinabatangan for at least one night’s stay and then by road from Sukau to Tabin Widlife Resort. This journey enables one to see some of the top eco-nature destinations in Borneo.
Tawau to Lahad Datu (4 hours). Divers find Tabin a good destination to visit after their diving trip to Sipadan and Mabul islands, allowing them to break the non-flying-after diving rule and visiting Tabin for one or two nights’ stay. Journey from Semporna from Tabin is 3:15 hours.

About Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Created in the year 1984, Tabin has been declared a Wildlife Reserve primarily on account of the large number of animals inhabiting its forests, some of which are highly endangered. The three largest mammals of Sabah, namely Borneo Pygmy Elephant, Sumatran Rhinoceros and Tembadau are all found within the reserve; nine species of primate are present, as well as three species of cats all of which are on the protected wildlife list. Of bird species, 42 families representing 220 species have been recorded. One of the highlights of Tabin being the active and mineral-rich mud volcanoes, attracting frequent visits by wildlife for their mineral intake and present an ideal platform for wildlife observation and bird-watching.
The Wildlife Department of Sabah is the custodian of the animals in the reserve while the Forestry Department of Sabah is responsible for the tress in Tabin. The reserve is covered mainly with lowland dipterocarp forest.
Since the availability of accommodation provided by Tabin Wildlife Resort in 2004, Tabin Wildlife Reserve has gained popularity to be one of the best places in Sabah to observe the rich bio-diversity of nature and to part-take in nature-base activities. Tabin Wildlife Reserve is located in the eastern part of Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. The reserve comprises a rectangular area of approximately 122,539 hectare in the centre of the Dent Peninsula, north-east of Lahad Datu town, south of the lower reaches of the Segama River and north of the Silabukan Forest Reserve.
My only Maple Town figures, who have both survived from my childhood. Mayor Lion was mine, and Miss Deer belonged to my sister (which accounts for why Mayor Lion's flocking is not as pristine as Miss Deer's, hah). Unfortunately, Miss Deer has lost the little red bow from the front of her dress. I may replace it one of these days. Also, after doing some research on Maple Town figures, I've learned that Mayor Lion came with glasses and a cane, and Miss Deer had a pointer. I don't recall ever seeing those as a kid, so I imagine my mom took them away before giving the toys to us to prevent any swallowing. :^P
Since these two are longtime toy collection institutions, they both have kept their original names. :^) (Although I didn't like the fact that Mayor Lion's stock first name is "Dandy", and Miss Deer never had a first name to my knowledge, so after a bit of discussion with my sister, we've given these two fresh new first names!)

In 1860 Sir John Cracroft Wilson came to Christchurch from India and brought seeds of a few varieties of rhododendrons and raised seedlings. Rhododendrons growing along the drive at Strowan kindled Stead's interest in these flowers, but there were few varieties available in New Zealand. He imported some for Ilam each year and from 1918 used cool storage for importing them.
The soil at Ilam is a heavy clay which is slightly acid, and is known as Ilam pug. It is particularly suited to rhododendrons, azaleas, and other trees.
Stead began trying out layering, grafting and raising seedlings to produce larger and more brilliant flowers. He was a pioneer in using pinus radiata sawdust as a mulch for the plants.
In 1917 Stead was given seeds of the North American varieties and began experimenting with hybridising them.
In 1925 he went to England to further his knowledge of rhododendrons and azaleas and was invited to the homes of some great hybridists - Lionel de Rothschild, Lord Snow, and Gerald Loder. He was invited to judge at the Chelsea Flower Show. He was given 520 plants by de Rothschild and Loder and 490 of them were planted at Ilam. He returned to England in 1930 and again visited Lionel de Rothschild who had developed the famous Exbury hybrid azaleas. Stead was allowed to make some crosses of his best named varieties. After this the seeds were sent to him and he produced the beautiful azaleas for which Ilam is famous.

Today I got a bit of a shock when I visited the Tivoli Car Park, the home of ‘Excellent Street Art’, as most of the available space had disappeared because one of the buildings within the complex had been demolished. I have searched the web and cannot find any information regarding the expansion of parking space or the reduction of canvas space for street artists. Since Christmas I have noticed that the quantity and quality of Street Art throughout the city of Dublin is reducing but on the other hand I do suspect that there has been an increase in what could be described as ‘paid for urban style art’ in order to promote business activities or protect buildings from graffiti and unapproved art. The sponsored art that I see appears to by a limited group of artists and while I do not object to their work being monetised [in fact I do believe that artists should be paid] I do fear that a ‘closed shop’ may develop as a result of the changes. Of course, it is possible that I am visiting the wrong places.
