Great mid-century living room, although the chair seems in a bit of an awkward spot -- probably had to move it over to shoot the room.
Photo by Tom Collins, Dallas, 50's.
In 1985-86, I worked at Collins Color Lab on McKinney Avenue in Dallas. When I worked there, the lab mostly did prints of huge architectural renderings for firms all over the city.
Located in a turn-of-the-century house that hadn't been updated since Mr. Collins set up shop there in the 50's, the lab contained file cabinet after file cabinet of 4x5 negatives.
One day, Mr. Collins daughter, Beth, who ran the business end of the lab, asked me to help her go through the file cabinets; they were going to purge old negatives to have the silver extracted from them to make way for more room in the lab.
Well, when I opened the first package of negatives, I was shocked. I had expected to see architectural renderings, but instead, I found negatives of Dallas from the 1950's and 60's. Apparently, Mr. Collins spent his early years as a photographer taking photos for businesses, advertising firms, architects, and newspapers.
There were tens of thousands of negatives of this great stuff, and I wanted to keep every single one. However, that wasn't the goal of the project, so I got to work going through every negative in one file cabinet, tossing 98% of them in a trash bag to be taken for extraction. It was a painful job to do.
While we were going through the negatives, I did ask Beth if I could keep some that I really liked, and she agreed, which is how I ended up with these.
I have about 40 negatives and, at one time, made contact sheets of all of them. They aren't in the best shape, but I've never been able to find an enlarger that takes 4x5 negatives, so I've been out of luck making actual prints of any of these. So, for now, the contact sheets will have to suffice.
The Collins Color Lab stayed in business for several years after I left, but it finally closed when Mr. Collins died. Now, the building has been lovingly restored and is an art gallery.
I'm happy to say that a large part of Mr. Collins' photos/negatives were donated to the Dallas Historical Society, and you can view some of his great work here:

His photos are scattered throughout the site, so you'll have to look around.
I 'm a bit crook and have to take some time off. I will be in touch again when I'm right-hopefully not too long. In the meantime, keep shooting.
I dug for two and a half hours, and all I saw was broken, worthless and plenty of mud. All you get is a picture of my muddy boots.
Since I only had 114 photos to work with, this time slice image came out a little choppy, but I kind of like the look of it. It reminds me of the 16-bit graphics in the video games I played as a kid.
Thank you for all views and comments; they are always very much appreciated.

Something a bit different today (27/03/2022) and a ride out from Woking to Hounslow and back on DAF SB120 / Wright Cadet B39F K31DAF. The bus was new to Marchwood of Totton as YG52CEN in 2002 and joined the Solent Blue Line / Bluestar fleet in 2008 before passing to Wilts & Dorset in 2012. By 2016 it had found a new home with D&E Coaches of Inverness where it became S99YST. In 2019 it was with Highland Country as YG52CEN once again where as Stagecoach 39882 it ran in the red & silver livery of its previous owner.
By 2021 it had entered preservation with an owner in Harrow who re-registered the bus with its current mark. The bus was repainted in a livery scheme inspired by the privatised Northumbria firm born out of United Automobile Services in 1986. K31DAF is currently on loan to RedRoutemaster.com.

This was taken on a cruise ship while en route to the South Pacific in late December last year. After soon discovering that there was a photography contest on the boat for pictures captured on the trip, my family persuaded me into entering this one.
A few days later, my photograph was awarded as one of the three runner up's in the contest - what a pleasing result!
Would very much appreciate your critique and opinions.
Thank you so much :)

Chest and shoulder parts removed. Shoulders should be as small as could be, so that head looks big and great..... Except for lovers of good ol' Hasbro power of the force macho type action figures!
A dream job for many!

Bit stupid to have come home for the weekend with only black and white film in my OM1 - should've checked the forecast. Forgive me if I use Hipstamatic to capture Spring arriving!
Bit of a rare beast on the 10.20 Plymouth - Penzance on the 2nd May 1983 as this was a solid ETH 45/1 turn. 45046 ticks over at Liskeard while a desperate photograph is obtained by peak bashers en route. For the record the train was in the station for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. This was a bank holiday and a fair few of us were heading west to Penzance for our usual massive chip butty and pints of Courage Best in the One And All before returning on the 13.45 to Bristol TM. Or so we thought. Control had other ideas and put 50011 on the train marooning the Peak Army in deepest Cornwall. So it was off to St Ives for a .....walk around the town and beaches as the pubs all shut at 2.30 in the afternoon back then. An afternoon of sobriety and no peak home. Not a good combination.
