On the 1st of the year, The Binary Boys gave away The Legendary Perfect 101 Award for the 3 best video games of 2006.
The winners were Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bully and BLACK.
Pete Hines from Bethesda Softworks (makers of Oblivion) joined us on the phone to accept the award (from Washington...east coast...).
Rockstar Games, the creators of Bully gave us an official response saying the award was greatly appreciated.
As for BLACK, we never got any response from Electronic Arts (Publishers) or Criterion Games (Developer)...so we called them game snobs, but still gave them the award (of course, the review is of the game, not the company).
Well, after airing the Awards Show I sent the Audio and website summary to all of the different game people so they could listen and check it out.
The next day, I got a phone call from Alex Ward, the Creative Director of Criterion (who is one of the founders of the development company) from their headquarters in Guildford, England. I hope to get him on the phone again to do a full interview
BUT ANYWAY...
Alex mentioned that they would be adding the award announcement to their website, which is what this screen shot is of.
It says (by the red dot, the Binary Boys crossed-swords logo):
"BLACK: LEGENDARY PERFECT 101 AWARD (THE BINARY BOYS 91.7 KAXE Video Game Review)—listen to the awards ceremony and while you're at it, don't miss their full review of the game"
Really exciting stuff to me, so I figured I'd share it with all of you :)
Hear the awards show, and the full interview with Pete Hines by clicking HERE.
Either our previous call, or hopefully a more prepared interview with Alex Ward will be available there soon as well.

As the DJ stepped into the mixing room for the first time in his new outfit, he couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. His wife, who was also his biggest supporter, had helped him get ready just before leaving the house.
"You look amazing," she said, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek. "Remember, you're doing this for yourself, not for anyone else's approval."
He took a deep breath and looked down at himself. He was wearing a black mini-skirt with small silver studs, paired with black tights and high-heeled boots that added a few inches to his height. Over the skirt, he wore a black t-shirt with a rolled-up collar and long sleeves.
His wife had helped him accessorize with golden earrings, a bracelet, and a choker necklace. He felt like a million bucks as he gazed at his reflection in the mirror.
As he began to set up his equipment, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and liberation. This was who he truly was – not just a DJ, but a person who loved fashion and wasn't afraid to express himself.
The crowd started filing in, and as he took the stage, he felt a surge of confidence wash over him. He began to mix his music, lost in the rhythm and beat, and the crowd responded with cheers and applause.
After the show, his wife was waiting for him backstage, beaming with pride. "I knew you could do it," she said, giving him a big hug. "You were incredible out there."
The DJ grinned, feeling like he was on top of the world. He knew that he still had a long way to go in terms of acceptance and understanding from others, but for now, he felt free to be himself – no matter what anyone else thought.
As they left the venue together, hand in hand, he turned to his wife and said, "Thank you for believing in me. I couldn't have done it without you."
She smiled and leaned in close. "You're welcome, my love. Now let's go celebrate with a night out on the town – just like we always do."

Here I spell out "Diet" using ceramic beef patties and carrots. I did not make the plates, they are from Wal-mart. I wanted the platforms for this line of work to not be ceramic, and not have a handmade quality to them. This is a picnic scene. I have been told that this would be stronger on a table, and I think I agree. what do you think?

In this line of work, using everyday objects as text, I wrote out concepts which I have struggled to grasp in binary code. I chose binary code because of its simple yet complex characteristics. In binary code, you either have a “1” or a “0”. It’s simply one or the other. However, when put together in a sequence they can represent characters which form words used for communication. Everything input into a computer has to be filtered through binary code. I compared this to the way people think. Everything I feel is brought into me through a language that I understand. The objects I choose may or may not make sense to everyone because it is the mental connection I make when I relate difficult concepts to my tangible, physical world. The viewer may be able to draw the same connections I do, or to their own ideas. These pieces also work as hieroglyphs in that sense, giving this body of work a bilingual quality that I enjoy.
