Yesterday, our watchdog kitty (Frodo) alerted us that we needed to come quick, NOW! We did and I got my cam for a few shots...This Ratsnake (I think) was streaming across the back-porch and around the corner...I went on to the deck because I had to know where he was going!!! Heart rate was wrenching up as I got closer-it sure wasn't a baby !

I don't think he liked me. Well, the feeling is mutual pal. He's lucky I didn't bitch slap him. I'll tell ya' he's lucky I didn't smack him in the face. Yeah, yeah right. . . . .

This evening, giving me the glare, in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

Taken at Khao Sok, Thailand.

I was sitting in the little restaurant of the park, waiting for my food to arrive, as I saw from far away this BIG snake crossing the road.

I think it was 2 meters in length.

Very impressive snake with a great attitude.

Back Story ..........................................

Left home at 4:15AM, arrived at 5:15AM.

Rocky and Mama greeted me at the gate.

Food was laid out, both dogs had breakfast.

Daylight is an hour away so Mama and I both

took a short nap. Rocky ran home to the nuns.

At first light we gathered up the food bags plus the camera then left to feed The Leroy Crew.

While going across the cement walking bridge Rocky and his gang of hooligans met us, so that took a few more minutes.

Each one of them demanded their quota of attention, big fun.....;-)

Now the excitement starts.....................................................................

Usually when I arrive at The Leroy Crews turf Tuff Guy is first to jump up on the rock wall and receive his morning meal.

Honey and new puppy run over next to the head monk and wait their turn............... Not Today ! ...............

Tuff Guy saw me alright but his nose was in the air, air scenting.

He smelled something that had his full undivided attention.

Like a rocket Tuff Guy took off for a cement pipe on the edge of the swamp. This is maybe 50 feet away, possibly 60 feet.

Monkeys are going ballistic, screaming, yelling, absolute panic. They all ran up into the trees and onto the nearby roofs.

Sure enough TG had scented a large python coming out of the swamp and into a drain pipe. The Thais quickly started a fire on the other end of the pipe to keep the snake from entering a building used as the temple kitchen, not good !!!

In short order the snake was yard-ed out of the pipe with a strong bamboo stick . Lots of fighting with the snake striking at anything within reach, that included me ! Well, Mostly Me !

.......... Please Don't Try This at Home ..........

Ok, in this photo that's my left hand ah-hold of the snakes tail while walking backwards at a fast clip. Keeping the snakes head as far away from me as possible was the whole idea ! Snake kept striking at the puppy who kept barking at the snake. Monkeys are all screaming in their own state of panic !

Dogs are all barking in a frenzy as the head monk and a few workers are talking real fast about the crazy photo man .. ;-)~

.

Now I'll answer your first question so you don't have to ask it.

Snake was put into a real large rice sack and transported off temple grounds by a local farmer.

Thanks for dropping by and leaving your comments.

Greatly Appreciated.............................................................

Thank You.

Didn't plan to take anymore snake photos but things changed in a heart beat a couple hours ago.

The Worm was laying on the porch, Mr WeeNee was sacked out next to my chair.

Just opened up a book to start reading when there was a flash shoot past the glass doors.

Couple seconds later The Worm did her real serious snake bark.Mr WeeNee and I flew out the door grabbing my walking stick on the way.

What I saw was The Worm dodging and weaving in and out with one very large King Cobra. Didn't even have time to slow down as my walking stick came swooping down at the snakes head, I missed , stick broke !!! The Worm grabbed its tail in an effort to shake it but due to the size she was unable to be affective. Snake had now zeroed in on me and was extremely close and getting closer ! Brought what remained of the bamboo stick down one more time and connected with intended target.

Cobra measured out at around 10 feet long and was very heavy, like real heavy. Tied a piece of twine around it's neck just behind the jaws and together with the stick picked it up. It just wouldn't hold still but in time most of it went into the basket where I had to use some bungee straps to keep it in place. Took off to the corner restaurant where my wife happened to be talking with some local friends when I pulled in.Now these people are no light weights when it comes to seeing cobras but when this one was pulled out of the basket all their mouths dropped to the ground !

This one was way to close so tomorrow I'll be looking for a "new walking stick". Four foot sticks are just to short when your used to using a five footer.

Any way there ya go, another day on the river in tropical paradise......;-)

me while I'm standing on a steep, muddy, slippery slope. ......

Tuff Guy chased the python into a cement pipe while alerting

everyone of his find. This is one angry pissed off python !

And don't for a minute think this snake won't bite you big time !

After the offerings for the ancestors, its time for a nice lunch. Na het geven van spijs en drank aan de voorouders, hebben we een heerlijke tempel maaltijd verdiend.

I'm taking pictures of Blue Jays and parrots in my backyard after a hard week of work . I notice this thing crawling under the fence and realize it's a fairly large snake. Unlike most snakes that run away.....this on CAME AT ME!! At this time I realized that the triangular head looked menacing lit some kind of pit viper and I decided to look it up online. It's a WATER MOCCASIN!! When I went back outside to kill it it was GONE! I got a pretty portrait of the damn thing anyway....here's some reading materials:

Part of the San Juan River Raplee Anticline, in the Lime and Comb Ridges area of southern Utah. The anticline, known more generally as the Navajo Blanket, is adjacent to the San Juan in this area, and parallels Comb Ridge farther south. This is one of the prominent exposures of the formation, which upfolded and twisted layers of sandstone have eroded to expose the strata in a sinuous aspect. Indigenous stories tell of this as home of Big Snake. There is a pronounced sinuous quality to much of this landscape, from the forms of nearby Comb Ridge to the meanders of the San Juan, especially at the "Goosenecks." More later. Taken in mid-day light.

"Amongst others, I sketched group No. 17, consisting of Big Snake, the centre figure; Mis-ke-me-kin, “The Iron Collar,” a Blood Indian chief, with his face painted red; to the extreme left of the picture, is a chief called “Little Horn,” with a buffalo robe draped round him, and between him and Big Snake is Wah-nis-stow, “The White Buffalo,” principal chief of the Sur-cee tribe. In the background stand two chiefs of inferior quality, one of them has his face painted half black, being in half-mourning for some friend." (Paul Kane, "Wanderings of an Artist," 1859:424–425)
