Once again the pine-tree sung:—

'Speak not thy speech my boughs among;

Put off thy years, wash in the breeze;

My hours are peaceful centuries...'”

Old-growth white (near left) and red (farther right) pines near each other along the path in the Lost Forty forest.

This section of forest lies within the Chippewa National Forest near Bigfork, Minnesota. A Minnesota DNR Scientific and Natural Area, the 32 acre Lost Forty SNA, is also part of this beautiful site.

Due to a surveying error back in 1882, this 144 acre section was never logged. As a result, there are numerous 300-400 year old magnificent old-growth red and white pines in this special place.

The sight of these incredible trees isn't the only thing you experience here. The smell of this forest is unique. The sound is also unique. The breeze blowing through the crowns of these old pines make this piece of the north woods sing a totally different tune than most other sections of forest up here. You have to experience it to understand what I am saying.

Just a little piece of heaven on earth, one of many that can be found in Northern Minnesota.

This is Owen Lake, in George Washington State Forest, about 25 miles (as the crow flies) north of Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range. The photo was taken in late April from the pretty little State Forest Campground on the lake.

The site is about 15 miles (give or take and again, as the crow flies) from the nearest town, Bigfork, Minnesota.

Stark change in the lighting from inside the picnic area to the tall pines on the park road at Scenic State Park near Bigfork, Minnesota.

This state park, one of Minnesota's most historic parks, was established in 1935 after having been constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

There are two separate U.S. Historic districts in the park that were added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in June 1992. The rustic buildings in the park's service yard (NRHP Reference No. 92000595) is one, and more rustic buildings in the camping and picnic areas (NRHP reference No. 89001670).

The buildings were designed by G. Iverson, Edward W. Barber, and the National Park Service (NPS), and built by the CCC. The NPS also designed the park's landscaping.

Went over to Big Fork today...had to clean a home for Sam. After him and Joe build them...then I will go in and clean them to ready it for the owners. Big job...but this was a pretty small house...really enjoyed it. It's funny how some homes are so big and just alot of work...not enjoyable. But others that are smaller seem to be much more enjoyable. This was one of those! lol...Thank God!! Anyway this is the area we went to...the river is Swan River. Have a wonderful evening all! :)
