Elm Street - Cardiff

Here is a density map showing the volume and proportion of votes in the 2012 US Presidential election. Each point represents 100 votes. This method avoids the geo-social visual artifact of large geographic areas having small population overwhelming the overall picture. In this way both the relative volume and distribution are apparent, as well as the partisan proportions. Areas of mixed voting appear as a blended purple cloud, while areas more heterogeneously represented appear more red or more blue.

Goodguys Pacific NW Nationals

I met Teressa and Big D at the local zoo. They were relaxing at a picnic table underneath some trees, and I had already packed away my camera. By the time I removed it and turned back around, they were gone.

I looked around and saw them in the parking lot suiting up to get back on their Harley Davidson and ride away. I quickly checked my camera's settings and approached them. They readily agreed to participate in the 100 Strangers project.

While they had been seated on the picnic table, I did not notice the extreme difference in their height, but while standing, it made for a remarkable contrast. Teressa and Big D had ridden close to 100 miles to visit the zoo, and they were ready to get back on the road.

Teressa and Big D's photo is my fiftieth contribution to the 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.

Continuous Intelligence

Where is business intelligence really going? Is it just about the data or the analytics or is it about the true business value that can be obtained by doing better and faster analytics in real time. At the recent Amazon Web Service conference, re:Invent 2015, Sumo Logic talked about the idea of continuous Intelligence. This quote from the article highlights what I am referring to

Shifting from rear-view insights to anticipating the insights to the questions not yet asked because those unknowns will make the difference between the next generation winners and losers.

The true business is all about getting ahead of where our customers might go and helping them by predicting ideas, thoughts that they might come up with. The goal is to look forward and anticipate our customers needs and desires. if you think of a sales organization, can you help them know who they should be talking with? can you help them know what they should be talking to their clients about? What would it take to get there? And are you basing that information based on just the information you have or based on a broader view of the full client?

Daughter and myself at the FISHER BUILDING, Detroit, Michigan. Superb grand old structure. These are paper mache horses that have been used in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit.
