The Johnson Street Bridge was designed under the direction of Mr. F. M. Preston, a City engineer in 1920 and opened to the public in January 1924. Nicknamed “Big Blue” due to its distinctive blue paint colour, it is a Bascule-type bridge in which one end rises while a counter weight lowers on the opposite end. Over 30,000 vehicles travel over the bridge each day as well as thousands of pedestrian and cycling commuters.

On April 2, the preliminary results of an overall condition assessment of the Johnson Street Bridge were presented to Council, signalling the urgent need to invest in rehabilitation or replacement of the aging bridge.

On April 23rd, Victoria City Council gave approval-in-principle to replace the 85 year old Johnson Street Bridge.

Where do I begin to tell the story?? As you may already know Eli Mannning & the New York Giants are SuperBowl 46 Champions!!

The past few days seem to blend into one another since Sunday's win. Sunday was another day I spent catching heart attacks while watching football with my buddies. Since Sunday I've barely slept between celebrating, working, going to the parade in NY, & processing pics, its been an adrenaline rush to say the least. The win is just starting to sink in....

It was an unbelieveable season highly reminscent to the Giants of 2007! The Giants were the underdogs once again but in the face of doubt they shut the "Brady Bunch" down for the second time in the SuperBowl answering that famous season question, "Is Eli Manning an elite qaurterback?" No need to debate any further because Eli proved to the football world that he was clutch in several 4th qaurter come-backs during the 6 game winning streak that lead to an incredible SuperBowl win.

I love the story of the underdog, it holds so much meaning to me. It's an inspiration to rise up in the face of hate and doubt to reach the very top of the world proving that you are a champion. To me, its the real American dream/story.....Take a rookie named Victor Cruz from the Giants and you will see exactly why I'm inspired. Cruz is from my hometown of Paterson, NJ, he took a detour from the streets of Paterson, went to college and was spotted by NYG scouts at a training camp. In his first year on the team he became one of Eli's go-to guys, and a real problem for rival teams defense. His hard teamwork carried him into the superbowl as a rookie. He was the first to score a touchdown in SuperBowl 46! Just a regular guy from Paterson has become a sensation over night, that as a Patersonian is truly inspirational!!

Me & my bro took the train out to the parade on Tuesday to join the 1million wild Giants fans

in the streets of Lower Manhattan. Before we left the house we were watching the news as they interviewed fans, we actually seen the barber and the guy pictured above on t.v. We ended up running into them as we walked up the barricaded sidewalks of Church St.

We walked for blocks until we made it to the entrance of the parade. Once we made it through the entrance we walked several blocks south to City Hall where we found a couple of feet of standing space on a small incline which gave us a bit of a better view. It was so hard to capture good shots while rasing my camera above my head to capture a shot of the team, I was doing a pray and shoot! Overall it was an awesome experience to be with that many Giants fans which created a sea of blue in the streets of Lower Manhattan. I would do it all over again, but next time I'll leave a bit earlier to get a better viewing spot.

Paleontologist Kirk R. Johnson and Artist Ray Troll bring ancient life to life. Many libraries have it, and all libraries have inter-library loan. A real must for anyone interested in the geology or paleontology of our region. Read it!

Would anyone like to suggest some other really worthwhile geology books?

For now, it is my favorite geology book, but I'm also busy with:

The Ends of the World

Annals of the Former World

Cruisin' the Fossil Coastline.

It was nice to see this Big Blue so close to the walkway. Lots of Moms sitting on their nests. I did not get a chance to see any baby blues hopefully next time.

A revisit to this abandoned Coking plant on our doorstep. As my friends hadn't been without being seen and escorted out and I've been twice before, I agreed to go back and glad I did as I saw things I had never seen before. Visited with Wiffsmiff23 and Martyn.

We live in an aquatic environment...outdoor Pools are minutes away (by foot) and open year-round; the Beach 20min (by car).

Even though my boys play and practice Water Polo 3-4 times a week, we still hit the pool/beach often (of which they never tire).

The largest known Tridacna gigas specimen measured 137 cm. It was discovered around 1817 on the north western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia ... The weight of the two shells was 230 kg, which suggests that the live weight of the animal would have been roughly 250 kg (from Wikipedia).

This photo was taken this christams when I was in Thailand. The sunset was absolutely stunning, you could see how the sun slowly moved down the sky and then suddenly disappeared behind the horizon.

Las imágenes nunca han sido un problema.

Las ciudades están saturadas de ellas. Nosotros también.

El problema es tener algo que decir.

This is the largest skyscraper in my Micropolis city so far. Know as Big Blue, its base spans half a block and the top of the tower appears to break out of its glass walls lower down. Perfect for a grand office block in the downtown zone. Ref: D1536-068

Lake Pukaki, in New Zealand's South Island is amazing - in every sense of the word. Its bright turquoise waters are from its glacial feed, created by glacial flour, the extremely finely ground rock particles from the glaciers.
