An explanation: While we were standing around at the end of the platform, waiting for the train to leave, this guy was wandering around, checking out the locomotive, etc. We called him over and asked him to pose for a few shots. While this may not seem like much to you folks, it would be hilarious to the guy in the hat, and the people who were with me at the end of the platform. Sadly, I didn't get any of their names.

So this picture is for ME.

And oldifying the picture just seemed appropriate.

Once Fred realized what he was standing on he was so happy he converted to digital currency years ago. He did, however, realize he missed the outstanding craftsmanship of the real thing.

Macro Mondays: Smaller Than A Coin - January 26, 2015

Happy Monday Ya'll!

Uncle Phil walking in Discovery Park, Safford, Arizona. An intensely curious man who always has time to stop, look and listen to anything he has never seen before. His leave no stone unturned approach to life leaves him forever young and a virtual fountain of knowledge for others.

But there is a story here, if you have the time, he would tell it.

This image and the ones below are of Dave Martens who is the Blacksmith at Pioneer Village in Steinbach MB. It was so interesting to watch Dave work with such precision as he described the use of so many tools in the shop.

Thanks Dave for providing such insight into your craft!!

Documenting a house fire in the rural district known as Big Ivy, or Barnardsville, North Carolina, shot in 1959. NOT MY PHOTOGRAPH. Signs of the local volunteer fire department at work. I scanned a number of photos in an old album for the convenience of the community club when I lived in the area over 5 years ago.

I love some of the characters in this one.

From the Big Ivy Scrapbook for 1959.

Two random shots demonstrating that Sarah still resists my recommendations to grow. These two shots also demonstrate the odd weather we have in Houston. Both were taken in "winter" months. In one she spent most of the weekend in overall shorts, a sports bra, and going barefoot. In the other she's wearing a tee shirt, jeans, and boots. It is nice to have such consistency in temperature.

the title is written on the back of the card, where the message would be. though i don't think the card was postally used, Raymond's name is repeated in the address window, and his address is listed as R.F.D. # 3, Freeport, Ohio.

not sure i would describe today's trip to Metrolina Antique Extravaganza as epic, but it was a very good day. may have to add South Carolina to my list of great photo collecting states, along with Georgia and Iowa. made some good contacts (and now have a new excuse to drive to Asheville, NC.)

the land

farming

a connection with the earth

a simple life...

i feel this through my core, these are my Roots

This is a photo of my paternal grandpa taken on his farm in the 1930's. His parents, Hans and Amalie, emigrated to the U.S. from Denmark in 1889 (along with their one year old baby - can you imagine the long sea voyage that must have been?). This photo brings back memories of my grandpa - he would often wear bib overalls just like these, he loved wearing hats and one of the best things about visiting the farm were the tractor trips he would take us on down the old dirt road...sometimes I still dream about them.

Even though I don't live on a farm, I feel drawn to the land and would love to buy a small hobby farm with a bit of land to live off the earth. I would love to raise some chickens for their organic eggs and have a huge vegetable garden. Someday maybe... it's good to dream~

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
