Ein Biber in seiner typischer Sitzhaltung, auf seiner Schwanzflosse sitzend. - Was juckt da? Hat sich da wohl ein (Wasser-)Floh im Fell versteckt :)
Zur Geschichte:
Die „Nachfrage“ nach Bibern war bereits im frühen Mittelalter so groß, dass die Tiere, insbesondere in den südlichen Teilen des europäischen Verbreitungsgebietes, ausgerottet wurden. Später importierte die Hanse Biberfelle aus Ost- und Nordeuropa.
Nachdem die Vorkommen in Europa und Asien weitestgehend ausgebeutet waren, konzentrierte sich die Biberjagd auf Nordamerika. Das unstillbare Verlangen nach Bibern führte innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte auch zu ihrer großräumigen Ausrottung in den Vereinigten Staaten und in Kanada.

In der Abenddämmerung kann man sie beim Fressen beobachten.

Von ursprünglich drei Biberburgen an unserem See ist nur noch eine bewohnt. Störungen durch "interessierte" Besucher, aber auch durch die vielen Hunde, die sich sehr für die Biberburgen interessierten führten dazu, dass die Biber sich ruhigere Gegenden gesucht haben. Leider gibt es noch viele Hundebesitzer, die es nicht verstehen, dass in einem Landschaftsschutzgebiet Hunde nicht frei herumlaufen können und das man die Wege nicht unbedingt verlassen sollte.

Langsam soll er auch wieder in unseren Gewässern heimisch werden.
Dieser hier fühlt sich offensichtlich in der Wilhelma in Stuttgart wohl.

"What's your poison young man?"
First attempt at photos of the Black Series Bib, it was an interesting experiment. Not perfect by any means but...interesting. See previous pic for the making of; there's some colour adjustment and brightening of the eyes (which really helped give an eerie glow to them). The 'photo-real' eye print is glossy so the camera picks it up which is why some of his face details are shiny. An absolute gorgeous figure! It's been quite the wait for this one.
another stripey one. this one is mostly denyse schmidt fabrics with a couple of heather ross ones thrown in. i have rediscovered how much i like the flea market fancy fabrics. i think i will need to buy the new pink colorway at some point in the near future.
we've been having bad weather where i live for a while. i'm supposed to be at a birthday party tonight but didn't want to be out on the icy roads so i'm home working on my projects. bad weather = good crafting.

I made the mistake of taking my longest lens out and needed to be like a mile away to get anything in frame! So not off to the best start for my October Picture a Day, but at least I found this crow (?) with his best bib and tucker on.

La Fuente de los Gigantes se sitúa en su centro, estando rodeada por todos los kioscos de flores que han hecho famoso este espacio.

The Fountain of the Giants is at its center, being surrounded by all the kiosks of flowers that have made this area famous.

Purple-bibbed whitetip (Urosticte benjamini) - Reserva Las Tangaras, Ecuador
Although this species has quite a small range, just along part of the Andes it is quite common where it is found. They are residents of humid and wet forests in Southern Colombia, Ecuador and Northeastern Peru. We can tell this individual is a female due to the white spot behind the eye and the lack of the purple 'bib'. Not as impressive as some of the larger species but I really liked these small feathery ping pong balls.
