After a long day up in Jefferson County exploring some new open spaces, we caught the sunset on the way home. We passed this lone barn in the distance and although we couldn't pull over I did roll down my window and lean out to get this shot. (This hopefully explains the lower quality.) It was just too picturesque to miss. The skies were gorgeous, heavier clouds drifting yet the sun slowly sinking with a lazy summer mood. The seasons are clashing here. Some days we will have weather in the 60s and 70s and then a day later still yet SNOW! Hard for me not to be ansy. I don't ever remember feeling as anxious for the warm promises of Spring and Summer before. This picture reminds me of long summer days, the heat of the sun on your shoulders, the sweet smell of warm grass in the air. Although the mountains are a bit far off they are still a reminder that they are there and waiting should you feel the urge to wander that way. ;)

Dark magic myths surrounds Clophill Church.
It is generally believed to be a church of dark magic and orientated incorrectly. In fact the church is orientated due east towards Jerusalem, as are many other churches in the British Isles. Another myth is that the church is built on top of an ancient leaper colony where infected villages as well as those suffering from plague were left to die. To date there has been no evidence found to support this. During the night ‘satanic’ graffiti had been daubed on the church walls and several graves had been damaged with the remains removed from the grave of the apothecary’s wife (some reports say daughter), Jenny Humberstone, who had died in 1770. The bones were found to have been arranged on a make shift alter and the skull impaled on a metal spike.

The last time a passenger charter went down the Rylstone branch was six years ago, 13 March 2020. Social distancing was in place, this being one of the last charters to run before Covid lockdowns.
What was originally billed as the Little North Western Grid, with class 56 haulage, ended up with West Coast Railway Co. 37706 and 47832 top and tailing the train.
Sunny blue skies in the morning were quickly replaced by low cloud and I opted to join the train at Giggleswick, having never ridden a train over the Rylstone branch. I returned to Skipton in the cab of 47832, noting that memories of 47560 TAMAR lived on in the lettering on the cab ceiling.
37706 and 47832 are seen at Swinden Quarry, Rylstone with 1Z56, the 09.05 Carnforth to Doncaster. Naturally the sun was back out by the time we got back to Doncaster.
