THE HISTORY OF TRAM NUMBER 223
IETT, Istanbul's and Turkey's oldest public transportation institution, has prepared a special surprise for the new year. They have put into service a nostalgic tram on Istiklal Street, one of the world's most iconic public transportation vehicles, specially decorated for the new year.
With a 155-year history, IETT is working to carry its legacy into the future with confident steps. In this context, it preserves and carries into the future the nostalgic tram, which has been serving Istanbul since 1914 and is considered one of the world's most iconic public transportation vehicles.
Accordingly, the nostalgic tram number 223, manufactured in 1928 and restored to its original form by IETT's expert team in 2025, has been specially designed and decorated for the new year.

THE HISTORY OF TRAM NUMBER 115
Tram number 115 was manufactured in 1914. One of the first electric trams belonging to IETT (Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Company), it was red in color. Since entering service in 1914, it was the first tram to cross the Galata Bridge, connecting Eminönü and Galata. It is the same model as the nostalgic tram that operates on the Taksim-Tünel line.
After serving on the European side for many years, tram number 115 was transferred to the Anatolian side in 1961. It operated on lines in this region until 1966. Following the removal of trams on the Anatolian side, it was taken to the IETT İkitelli Garage.
